ROBERT LOWELL JACKSON (Age 82)
Robert Lowell Jackson, a retired Washington correspondent for the Los Angeles Times died on Monday, December 18, 2017, at his home in Silver Spring, MD. Mr. Jackson, who worked for the newspaper for more than 35 years in Washington, and before that in Los Angeles, specialized in investigative reporting - writing about Watergate, Abscom, the South Korean influence case and the Monica Lewinsky and Whitewater affairs. He shared a Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the 1965 Watts riots in Los Angeles and the 1970 resignation of Abe Fortas from the Supreme Court - an effort that captured the national journalism award of Sigma Delta Chi. During his career Mr. Jackson won a Fullbright Scholarship to Copenhagen, Denmark in 1961 and a second Fullbright teaching grant to Russia in 2002. He is the beloved husband of the late Mary Jane Jackson; father of Julie Jackson Somers (Jim), Patti Jackson Snowden (Steve) and Peggy Jackson Tyler (Steve); grandfather of Kelsey Tyler and Drew Tyler; brother of Jane Jackson Houser, Eloise Jackson Tremusini and late Richard Jackson. I am a resident of Americana Finnmark Condominium and knew the Jackson's since 1980. They had a poolside unit ground floor. Robert Jackson obtained some press photos for me in the middle 1980's for my work. Very nice people. They will be missed.

Julie, Patti, and Peggy: We enjoyed getting to know your Mom and Dad through the Camp Maria retreat weekends and at St. John's Church. Bob was fond of his tennis matches against Sr. Mary Berchmans down at Visitation. We will remember him as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Peace be with you.

Jane and I were extreamly sorry to hear of Bob's passing. He was a great friend and a superb journalist. The Watergate scandal might have ended differently without his reporting.

Dear Julie, Patti,Peggy, Kelsey and Drew,
My family and I were saddened to hear of your father's passing.I always had great admiration and respect for him. When I visited him three weeks ago, I felt that it wouldn't be long.
Your parents/grandparents were always such wonderful, loyal and supportive friends. They welcomed me to Hilton Head, Atlanta, Islamorada, St. Petersburg and others. We had many wonderful times together.
I know that he had great faith and he and your Mother are happy together again. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Julie, Patty and Peggy..I'm so sorry to hear about Bob's passing. My condolences to you and your family. Bob was a hero and a mentor to me in the DC bureau when I first came there as an intern 30 years ago, and he and your mom were so welcoming to me when I came back to the bureau later as a real reporter. They even flew cross-country to LA for my wedding, which was incredibly nice of them. I remember so well all the time that I got to spend with him, Ron Ostrow, Jack Nelson, et al. He always made time to pass on a tip or two to the younger reporters. He was not just a great reporter, but a great guy, too. I'd heard just a few weeks ago that he wasn't doing well, and I'd been meaning to find a way to go see him. I'm so sorry I wasn't able to do so before he passed. Again, my condolences.
