ROBERT MILLS WILSON (Age 84)
On Sunday, March 2, 2014, of Burtonsville, MD. Beloved husband of Marcia Mathias Wilson; father of Rick Wilson, Jim Wilson, Sharon Wilson Rushton and Jorge Wilson. Also survived by eight loving, beautiful grandchildren; six equally beautiful great-grandchildren, and a multitude of very devoted friends. Memorial Service will be held at Cedar Ridge Community Church, 2410 Spencerville Road, Spencerville, MD, on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 1 p.m. Interment Private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jubilee Association of Maryland, Inc., 10408 Montgomery Avenue, Kensington, MD 20895.www.COLLINSFUNERALHOME.com

Dr. Wilson was my undergrad reading professor at UMCP and encouraged me to pursue a reading Master's degree. He saw the reading specialist role on the horizon as very a very important literacy leader in schools. As an undergrad, I learned excellent classroom management and classroom climate strategies from Dr. Wilson. He told us that all of the knowledge and planning was not going to work without excellent classroom management! Dr. Wilson made connections with his students and often invited us to his home to relax and collaborate. How fitting that my first reading specialist position was with Bob's wife, Dr. Marcia M. Wilson. Both of these special people have made a huge impact on my career as an educator and allowed me to pass it on to many teachers, parents, and students.
