I still see Susan with her bright light and loving heart. I remember the first time I met Susan. Her smile was so warm and sweet. I loved her immediately. To Susan's beloved children, grand children, sisters and brothers, you have an angel surrounding you every day. I lit a candle for Susan today after Mass at St. Mary's, Barnesville, MD. There we devote our prayers to Our Lady of Fatima. I love you Susan (my sister) and I miss you so much.

Dear Kevin,
I was your teacher when you were a little boy, first in school, and then at home. Your mother was a support to both you and me. We laughed together, and learned from each other.
Years have passed, and now you are a man. I'll never forget the energy your mother had, and her ability to deal with whatever life brought.

I have not seen Susan since 1991. I usually came to the house, starting in 1988 as a consultant to help with Kevin's goals. I needed to take maternity leave but Susan insisted that it was no problem to come to my apartment and watch my newborn while I worked with Kevin as long as I did the nursing and not her! Susan was extraordinary. She will always be in my memory as vibrant, bright, highly capable, motivated, humorous and an incredibly loving mother. Wishing her loving family the strength to cope with such a sudden loss.

To the Gallagher and Wellen families; I am so truly sorry for your loss. I didn't know Susan too well until her Brian moved out to California and she came to visit, she was so easy to talk to and you knew how much she truly loved all of her children and that she would do anything for them. I hope your pain will ease soon and you will be able to talk of her without the tears. That time will come . Again I am so sorry that such a wonderful person has gone so soon. Be well all of you my prayers and thoughts are with you.
Your California cousin RETT.
If you need a change of scenery we all have room for you to visit.

To the Gallagher and Wellen families,
I know there are no words that can change this or make it better for you. Just so sudden and shocking. I was lucky enough to have had some good conversation with Susan when I saw her at Aunt Mary's services last November. We talked about our children and how lucky she was to be such a young grandmother. Over the past several days, all of us Sheridan's have been talking about Susan and sharing memories of her. Two themes seem to prevail and those are her honesty and her sense of humor. We've recalled never having to guess what Susan was thinking or feeling because of her honesty. Also remembering her sense of humor and quick wit. Susan had a way of always making me feel comfortable around her because she was just so 'real'. One of my memories of Susan was the speed with which she could change a diaper. Seemed as if she could do it as Janet or one of the boys were running past her without missing a step! I remember them all coming to CT and she educated me about a "pee cup' for the first time, something that came in very handy in my travels with my children! I hope to understand some day why God takes our good people from us. Susan was definitely one of the good ones! My heart hurts for all of you and I hope for a day when your tears can be replaced with smiles when you remember the good! What a wonderful legacy she leaves. God Bless you all.

Big Gallaghers:
"Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep"
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die! - Mary Frye (1932)

To all the Wellen and Gallagher families, especially Kevin, Janet, James, Michael and Brian. There are no sufficient words to tell you how sad I feel that Susan has left us to go to heaven. I am very upset because I will miss her. I was so young when I met Susan and for years my heart has been with her. Remembering her beautiful smile and her inspiring words to me will not be forgotten. I love all of you so much. Please know I am here for any support you may need. Your Aunt Dorothy

I had called Susan on Friday, mid-morning, and we had a wonderful conversation. We first met when Kevin and our son were two years old, and Susan and I have been friends ever since. I called her back about 3:00 regarding a project she and I had been working on together, and Janet gave me the tragic news. My heart goes out to all of Susan's family. She was so special, and she will be missed by all who knew her.
Hang on to all your good memories, and may Susan rest in peace.
