WILLIAM PERRY STEDMAN, JR. (Age 95)
On Sunday, March 25, 2018, of Bethesda, MD. Career Foreign Service Officer, specializing in Latin America. Among other positions, served as Ambassador to Bolivia and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs. Later, served as Senior Policy Advisor of the Fellowship in International Development Program of Partners of the Americas. Beloved husband of the late Janet A. Stedman; father of Diana Stedman Donaldson, James Boardman Stedman and Lawrence Christopher Stedman; grandfather of Nora Stedman Flanzraich, and Claire Isobel Stedman Barry; great-grandfather of Sylvia Jay Barry and Hazel Mae Barry. Private inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium. A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, 1740 Massachusetts Avenue, Washington, DC 20036.www.COLLINSFUNERALHOME.com

I was saddened to learn of Bill's passing. Bill was a towering figure for generations of Foreign Service Officers who took pride in their profession and who also shared his passion for Latin America. He was a superb leader for the group of (mostly) retired officers who continued to share his interest in that region. He sustained that group with superb speakers in an environment of fraternal fellowship. He made a difference and his legacy will live on.

I'm sad to read of Bill Stedman's passing, condolences to his family. I and my late husband Stan became acquainted with him through Partners of the Americas, and I worked with him from MN with the Fellowship for International Development. He was a wonderful man, I respected him highly, men like him are missed. God Bless.

I loved Uncle Bill for the wonderful, caring and empathetic person he was. I will miss knowing that he was there whenever I needed him. My sympathies go out to Diana, Jim and Larry and their families for their loss.

My most sincere condolences to the Stedman Family.
Amb. Stedman was a colleague, a mentor, and a friend to many of us who worked with him at Partners of the Americas. He was instrumental in the success of the Education and Culture Program and its signature W.K. Kellogg Foundation/Partners of the Americas Fellowship in International Community Development.
An honorable man and a true gentleman, Bill was a tireless advocate for Latin America and U.S. relations. I feel very honored to have known him.

Bill and I k ew each other through the Senior Seminar Alumni Association. He was witty, wise and a wonderful person to know. That I shared a small portion of his time was a gift to me.

As his children know, I knew Bill Stedman well since we served together in Peru and kept in touch thereafter through the years. He was bright, honest, fair, thoughtful, and astute. He was an exemplary Foreign Officer and a dear friend.
