Dr Hugus did my surgery in 1997 and my husbands in 2010. He also did my Mother's. We all had great results and thank him for our better lives. We just found out today. He will be a hard Dr. to replace
Just recently heard of Dr. John's passing. He did my many surgeries and I will forever be grateful for his kindness and skill. He was not just my doctor but my friend. Never too busy to answer questions and always gave me the time I needed to adjust to what he was going to do. I'm so very sorry for your loss and sent all of you, Angels, to comfort you.
John was such a fun-loving, brilliant and humble person. It was my honor and pleasure to have been his friend at Dartmouth. My condolences to his family.
I, too, am so sad to hear about John's death!! We were very close friends for a long time, usually always "hanging" with Jeff Pontius, too, am I right? What a sad loss and what a wonderful man....Tayloe Holton (Loftus)
I'm so sorry to hear of John's passing.
It has been difficult to express our feelings about Dr. Hugus' death. He was a wonderful person who was able to raise children & chickens and the spirits of the suffering. Our lives were enriched by his work and friendship. It is great to see how his compassion spread through and strengthened the entire community. We miss him. Ed & Maren Rahn

Over the years I've had the privilege to witness Dr. Hugus' expertise in helping many of my patients. I found myself in need of his help a few years ago. His compassion and consummate skill restored my ability to enjoy the passions of my sports and I will forever be grateful to him for this.
He was a wonderful Doctor.
We were so sad to hear of John's passing, we have many fond memories as Bob built the Log Home in the Northwoods. We wish to extend our sympathy to Ellyn, Ben and Mark and to Robin who we never really got to know. Bob remembers John with the Sauna and chopping holes in the ice to jump in. So many fun memories of the Hugus's. John, you will be in our prayers.
Just recently heard of Dr. John's passing. So sad to hear of it. He healed my wife's spine problems this past February and we are ever so grateful for his skill and gentleness.

Robin, and the Hugus Family,
I'm so very sorry for your loss... I know you have many happy memories. Thoughts and prayers are with you, and God Bless...
My deepest sympathy to the Hugus family.
Dr. Hugus operated on my neck, in 1995. I was able to continue my collegiate studies and activities in sports, and without any pain or handicap. He had a way to really make you comfortable and happy. Even today, Dr's who look at my MRI's mention the fantastic job Dr. Hugus had done on my neck.
A very gifted surgeon which the Central Wisconsin community, and medicine in general, will sincerely miss.
A truly gentle, compassionate human being. Everyone that met him, I'm sure, is saddened by his early passing.
I remember the family well - we all attended First United Methodist Church. I remember John's care for his twin-brother Mark. I too am fighting cancer and agree with what John's life seems to prove - you're alive as long as you're alive. Live to the fullest. I know Mark and John are eagerly awaiting their family to join them in Paradise.
the world is a sadder place without John. He was not only an amazing doctor but a kind, generous, and caring person who brought joy into the lives of all he met. He was a man for all seasons and will be truly missed. Ken and Bonnie Lyon
Thanks for the memories. Betty Rusquist

I am sorry for your lost and my heart goes out to you. Dr. Hugus did back surgery and without his skill, I would have been in a wheelchair at 35. He was a good man and gave me a bright future. I am blessed to have met him. Your family is in my prayers

Dear Robin and Family,
We were surprised by John's death, as he seemed healthy and active. After reading that he had multiple myloma, I understood. My first husband died of that when he was 43.
What a wonderful, active, and valuable life John lived. He will be sorely missed.
I am sorry to hear of Dr. John Hugus passing. He did many of my spinal surgeries. He was a great person. A very caring man with a great sense of humor. I trusted him so much. He will be very missed. God Bless
I coached John with my brotherTony in swimming. I will ALWAYS remember his contagious smile and sense of humor:):) I have thought of him and his family often. He will always remain in my thoughts and prayers. He is now in Heaven as a jokester and caring angel!!!! Hugs to ALL,Karen Kowals.
I am proud to have grown up with John in the swimming circles of his hometown, South Bend, Indiana. Indeed, as we all read the notes from many others close to him here, we better appreciate the lives he has shaped, his professional skills, but most importantly, the warm and wonderful personality that made John unique. John made the world around him a much better place, he made better people out of those of us lucky to have shared his company in life. I will miss you, pal.
John was my friend growing up in South Bend, We had great times swimming with and against each other in summer club, Marlins and high school. I remember a Spring Break trip with John and Mark Mamula to Ft Lauderdale driving down in John's very tiny car. I think his humor was what got us thru the 20 hour drive! Rest in Peace my friend!
With Deepest Sympathy.
Dr Hugus was my physician for two surgeries.
Thanks to him I've had so many good years.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Our deepest sympathy to the family. He performed surgery on 2 of my children. We thought the world of him because he took such great care of them. He was the best.
In loving memory to a fantastic Doctor. I will be forever thankful for all you have done for me with my many surgeries. You will be truly missed.
Will always remember mowing lawns with John in Twyckenham hills and hanging out at his house on Brookmede listening to Seals and Croft..he was strong' motivated and a great swimmer..if he would have attended our 40 yr. reunion in 2014, he would definitely be one of the most succesful people there...John, thanks for trying to teach me the butterfly stroke, but I failed and went back to my dog paddle..
My thoughts and prayers go out to all the family for your loss. I swam with John in the 60's and 70's in South Bend. I remember that big smile he always had when I knew him. Such a successful fellow, such an unfortunate loss.
Jim and I would like to extend our sympathies during this difficult time. John was such an inspiration to all of us even at a young age. He always gave his all which we saw and experienced in the pool. Jim was a swimmer with him at Jackson and always respected him. Our son turned out to be a butter flier, Jim always said John would have been proud of him. He reminded us so much of John's hard work and leadership. he will be missed but live on in all of us. love. Jim and Sue Petty
I had the privilege of working with Dr. Hugus. He was a great man and will be missed by many.
There are no words to describe what an inspiration John has been all of his life. I have known him since kindergarten & everything he did throughout his life, was done whole heartedly & with joy & a sense of humor. He worked hard at everything & was great at everything he did. School, swimming, wonderful son, wonderful father, surgeon, dedicated friend. He did it all with love & true caring. I'll never forget when we were in Jr. high & he had rheumatoid Arthritis. He had to take so many aspirin per day & he never complained. Instead, he stacked the empty aspirin bottles in his room that covered one entire wall up to the ceiling. ALWAYS a positive attitude. The world has lost a great person & God has gained an angel. Love & blessings to Jean & Floyd and John's 3 children. Marcia Lowe Leary
I am sorry to hear of John's passing. I was a classmate in medical school and remember him as always being friendly and upbeat.
We were so sorry to hear of the untimely passing of Dr. John Hugus. He was the one surgeon we trusted with our daughter's scoliosis surgery. He was such a wonderful doctor and man, and we will always cherish the good he did for our daughter. May God bless his soul.
I dated John in high school. I have not had contact with him for many years. Reading about his life and the comments people have posted, I am not surprised that he became a gifted and caring doctor, remained a talented athlete, and most important, was a great father and spouse. He was one of the most intelligent, talented, and modest people I have ever met. I am glad I got to know him, if only for a short time when we were young. I send my condolences to his family.
I went to Jackson High School with John and as I remember, he was always well spoken and nice to everyone. And quite a swimmer too! A tragic loss of a gifted man. We'll miss him.
I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. I am proud to have called myself one of John's friends. I will always remember him from high school and college, the times we painted houses together, and replaced the engine in his Fiat one summer. The world lost a tremendous person. My thoughts and prayers are with the Hugus family, especially his parents Jean and Floyd, who raised a wonderful son.
My family and I are so sad to hear this news. Dr. Hugus operated on my Dad's back many years ago before he passed away of multiple myeloma as well. Dr. Hugus also most recently operated on my sister's back. Our family has always had a special place in our hearts for Dr Hugus. The Hugus family is in our thoughts and prayers.
So saddened to hear that John passed esp at such an early age. I remember him from Jackson HS where I was the Drama Coach and English teacher. I hadn't known of John's wonderful accomplishments until reading his obituary this evening. He led a remarkable life and I know all of his peers and teachers from Jackson High will remember him fondly and send our sincere condolences to his entire family.
Dr. Hugus did two of my surgeries. I was lucky to be in his capable hands. I told my friends and family I would not trust anyone but him because he cared. He cared for me as a person not just a patient.
My sympathies to his family.
With humor and grace John inspired, encouraged, and challenged us professionally, athletically and personally. Thank you John.
I was fortunate enough to have had the honor and privilege of working with and calling John Hugus a friend. He was not only an excellent surgeon but, a great man of integrity and kindness. He will be greatly missed! God bless you Dr. Hugus. My prayers go out to him and his family.
Many things come to mind when remembering Dr. Hugus, like his kindness and his skill as a surgeon. But above all else I will always be grateful for the compassion he showed me, and the hope that he gave me during a time when my quality of life was greatly diminished. Even though it was clear how brilliant and gifted he was, he presented a solution and carried it out without an ounce of arrogance, remaining humble without the need of thanks. It is because of him that I am able to teach and coach play at a level I didn't think would be possible.
Dr Hugus was by far the best at his profession. I feel he gave me a new lease on life. My greatest sympathies to his family. I am honored to have had him as my surgeon.
Dr.Hugus did two surgeries on me, I loved him as my doctor as he was so nice and made me feel very comfortable. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family!
I remember a conversation with John years ago, when I asked him how he accomplished all his championships in racing. "I don't focus on the loss" he said to me. Gifts of a life lived fully alive. May your legacy continue to inspire all of us, John. 'Till we meet again.
Was proud to work with John providing many spinal orthoses for his patients, he will be greatly missed!
Having known John for many years I am deeply saddended by his passing. This is a loss not only for the medical community but for the greater community of mankind. Blessings to his family and all who he touched.
