I asked George McGovern if he would be my next father figure when I knew I was losing my dad. He instantly said yes, and he spoke words of comfort and inspiration. My dad flew B-17 combat missions over Germany in World War II. He was a teacher and farmer and Sunday School teacher and deacon. He lived five years beyond his beloved wife of 58 years. He lived a life of devotion to duty "for the duration." George talked to me about his children, and especially the most painful part of his life, losing Terry. We never forget those dear to us. But life goes on. We use the best of our talents, our experience, and our faith in God to help make this world a better place. I admire George's entire life. Opposition to an unwise war, civil rights, protecting our air and water, helping the needy and oppressed worldwide, standing up against injustice --- thank you, George, for your legacy. Your life gives me hope. I miss you. Linda Dalton

He leaves us with lessons of compassion to others and commitment to cause. With great thanks for the life of Senator McGovern, sincerely, the Minnesota Academy of Dietetics and Nutrition.
George McGovern's spirit lives in many of us. I appreciate his values and good works. He was the only major party candidate I ever voted for.
