Ivan Moore Obituary

Ivan L. Moore, 88, Quincy, died Tuesday (July 29, 2014) in his home.

Ivan was born Feb. 17, 1926, in Elnora, Ind., the son of Cletus and Bertie Vertrees Moore. He married JoAnn Smith on Dec. 30, 1946, in Indianapolis, Ind. She died on Feb. 15, 2006.

He served in the United States Army during World War II, from 1944 to 1945. He served in Rhineland and Central Europe and received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with two Bronze Stars.

Ivan attended Indiana State University and Butler University. He began his career in 1953 as a salesman for the Keller Tool Co., which later became a division of Gardner-Denver. He spent his time with the company in the New York Domestic Office, the Philadelphia District Office, and the San Francisco District Office before being transferred to Quincy in 1969. He later became the vice president of marketing for Quincy Compressor, Division of Colt Industries, until his retirement in 1983.

Ivan enjoyed gardening and was a voracious reader, especially of history and political topics. Ivan was involved with Special Olympics and S.C.O.R.E. (Senior Corps of Retired Executives). He was a longtime member of First Union Congregational Church.

Ivan is survived by three sons, Garry (Connie) Moore of Normal, William (Nancy) Moore of Seffner, Fla., and John (Jimmy L. Bryant) Moore of Stone Mountain, Ga; two daughters, Patricia (Dennis) Holbrook of Quincy, and Laura (Jay) Wright of Columbia, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, and stepfather, Jess Bissey.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1, in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bruce Rice officiating, and full military funeral honors conducted at Greenmount Cemetery by Payson VFW Post No. 2061 and the Illinois Military Funeral Honors.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 31, in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home

MEMORIALS: Payson VFW Post No. 2061 and First Union Congregational Church.
