It was so fun to see Stephen last year at a William Jewell College Oxbridge Honor's Program Alumni event after many years and losing touch. I just learned that he passed this spring. Stephen was a class act guy and college friend who was driven yet fun, enjoyable and stimulating. I only wish we had kept in touch over the years. May God hold all his friends and family close during this time of loss and a void in their lives.

What a loss to the family and the scores of amazing friends Stephen gathered, seemingly effortlessly, across the globe. I heard the wretched news from an old and dear friend of Stephen's. We all knew each other from the galvanizing shared experience of serving as student interns in the Douglas County Legal Aid Society. Stephen was singular in so many senses, a gentleman in the true sense of the word educated, thoughtful, marvelously appreciative of the finest things in life, with perhaps the highest overarching attribute being that he seemed as comfortable in his own skin as in the skin of others. We spent many hours together in the "bullpen" of KU Legal Aid, and as another person has dubbed it, I feel that I am forever in something called "Stephen Parker's club." On April 20, 2016, I and over 100 people attended an event that filled the KS Union ballroom, the "11th Annual Dialogue & Friendship Dinner - "Antidote to Extremism" at which members of different cultures will come together to enjoy cultural diversity." Sounds like the kind of gathering at which one might run into Parker. Instead, I was surprised and pleased to be seated at the same table as our former supervising attorney, Shelley Hickman Clark, now retired from KU Law. She had not heard the news of Stephen's passing. After a bit, she turned to her husband and gave him the sad news, and I recognized the implicit understanding that he too would remember this student, even if it were just as a one time guest in their home at a social gathering of her interns. And it seemed that he did. No one who was ever around Mr. Parker (reverting, sentimentally, to his law school name) for more than 5 minutes is likely to forget him. My deep condolences to those closest to Stephen. The thought of the hole he has left in your lives is unbearable. May Stephen's love and wildly expansive spirit be with us all.

A great incredible person, so much things to do and to talk about, gone to soon, I will miss you.
