I am so very saddened at the news of Roger's passing. I developed such a fondness and respect for this giant of a man who I honestly thought of as a father figure in my life. For better than twenty years, I stopped in periodically at the shop (often for no reason at all!) where I enjoyed his feisty political banter and his ability to connect with people on a very personal level. I never left his shop without learning something of value, either politically or mechanically. The image of Roger tucked away in his miniscule basement office surrounded by piles of parts, literature and paperwork is indelible in my mind. And let's not forget the cookies. Typically there would be a plate of fresh cookies nearby to feed the crew during their afternoon labors, produced by his dear wife. No visit to the shop was less than an hour and even at that it was too short. Roger was a charismatic and industrious business owner but above all a straight-shooter who would go to great lengths to solve problems and keep customers happy. His shop is so unique because of its family oriented model, meticulous repair work, and unrivaled customer support. Walking into the shop you couldn't help but feel part of something uniquely connected to the past in all the time honored ways. For sure, there is a place in heaven for dear Roger Lummus. He continues to watch over family and the shop.
