Benjamin Allen Groves, 1930 - 2017, of Harwich Port, MA, formerly of New York City, passed away peacefully at home on July 12, 2017. Born in Chicago, IL to Marjorie Allen and Hugh Wilson, Ben grew up in England with his mother and step-father, Group Captain (RAF) Hugh M. Groves and was educated at Winchester College and Cambridge University. He spent his early career at Standard Oil of New Jersey (now Exxon Mobil), which, in 1958, transferred him to the US where he later worked in the securities business. Ben was committed to Miss Halls School and led its Board of Trustees from the mid-1970s through the 1980s. Ben was devoted to his family and is survived by Elizabeth, his beloved wife of 46 years, his daughters, Philippa Groves Gerard (Robert) and Amanda Groves Outerbridge (Patrick) and his grandchildren, Ashley, Nina and Robin Outerbridge, Wylie and Ben Johnston, and great-grandson, Michael. He was a loving step-father to Elizabeths children Christopher, Eliza and Douglas, and his step-grandchildren, Zoe, Cooper, Hayley, Campbell, Emma, Norman and Dougie. It was Bens wish that there be no memorial service and that those wishing to commemorate his life do so with a simple act of kindness.

I send my sympathy to all the family and want you to know how much I, both personally and professionally, appreciated Ben's support as we developed the academic support program at MHS. His calm and positive nature were a source of inspiration for us. I also recall dear Barbara Kenefick getting a big kick out of him, a charming man. Best to all, especially Robin and family.

Ben was a loving and dedicated father, husband, step-father, grandfather, and friend. Such a warm and entertaining companion. I remember with great affection the good times we had in New York and in Bermuda. I only wish that I could have seen more of him towards the end of his life. My condolences to Liz and to the family.
