Strasbourg, March 7 2016

I met David when I went to the Seismological Laboratory that was outside of the Campus at CalTech in 1960. I just saw the obituary since I am in France where I was a profesor in Paris and Strasbourg. We were students of Frank Press and therefore we were part of a group that worked on seismic reserche at the highest level. David was one of the most dynamic students, and I remember him as somebody who was always ready to help us. He also had a remarkable scientific career, an example for all of us.

Please receive my deepest condolences

I began working at the Seismo Lab in 1969, when the lab was located on N. San Rafael Ave. in Pasadena.
That is where I first met Dave.
We after had Coffee in the basement of the building and Dave would stop buy and leave use with a smile, telling some joke or antidote from experience he had, he was a very witty guy.
I worked with him until he left the lab after we moved to Campus.
He was a good friend and I am better for knowing him.
God's speed David.

I was a staff member in Seismo during the 70's and 80's. Dr. Harkrider was a bright spot in the Lab. He was friendly and kind to the Staff and made us feel he was one of us. He loved his kids and his animals and we enjoyed his sense of humor too. My sincere condolences to his family.
