David, truly sorry about the loss of your mother. Condolences to you and your family. I was honored to have known her and will always remember the warmth of her smile and her uncommon ability to make all in her presence feel valued. She was unique and a loss to the entire Concord community.

For those of us remaining Wellesley '49ers, Johnny's passing leaves a very large hole in our ranks. Ever since we met as freshmen, she was an unforgettable presence, always upbeat, always positive, always a joy to be with. She will be missed!

It's hard to conceive of a world without our smiling "Johnny," who has been a mainstay of our Wellesley Class of 1949 during all the intervening decades. For many years, a contingent of New England classmates would gather for our traditional mini-reunion luncheon at the College Club, where Johnny was always a luminous presence. Her devotion to family, college, and community were unparalleled. With deepest sympathy,
Gretchen Rous Besser, Secretary, Class of 1949
