Thomas Francis Murph Murphy, Jr., 68, of Concord, peacefully left this life on Friday, April 1, 2016 in Falmouth while celebrating their 4th wedding anniversary, holding hands, and looking out over the ocean waves. He was the cherished and beloved husband of Sarah W. Lawrence. Born in Concord on July 18, 1947, he was the son of the late Thomas F. Murphy Sr. and Barbara (Collins) Murphy. He attended Concord Public Schools and was a 1965 graduate of Concord-Carlisle High School. Mr. Murphy served as a Private First Class in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Mr. Murphy retired in 2012 after over twenty-four years of employment with the Town of Concords Municipal Light Department. In addition to his wife Sarah, survivors include his son Don Murphy and his wife Kelley of Berwick, Maine, his daughter Amanda Murphy Ray and her husband Jeff Ray of Maynard; four grandchildren, Olivia Frances Murphy and Riley Ann Murphy of Berwick, Maine, and Drew Thomas Ray and Derek Paul Ray of Maynard. He is also survived by his four younger sisters, Maureen Murphy of Ashburnham, Phyllis Koike and her husband, Ken, of Honolulu, Colleen Whitcomb and her husband, Ed, of Boxborough and Robin Murphy and her husband, Dick Galdi also of Ashburnham. He also leaves his stepchildren, Jessica Minty and her husband, Steve Lane, of Concord, and Joshua Minty and his partner, Katherine Adams, of Boston, and his mother-in-law, Mary Lawrence of Concord. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 21st from 2 to 5 pm at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. A graveside service with military honors will follow the visitation on Thursday, April 21st at 5 pm at the family burial plot in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Bedford Street (Rte. 62), Concord. Officiating will be the Rev. Robert Brown, Associate Minister at the Trinitarian Congregational Church of Concord. Concords town flag will fly at half-staff on Thursday, April 21st in recognition of Mr. Murphys service to his country during the Vietnam War. Per Murphs request, in lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Multiple Systems Atrophy Coalition, 9935-D Rea Rd., #212, Charlotte, NC 28277 (www.multiplesystematrophy.org).
