Joy Cissy Barbara (Lazarus) Ernest of Stoughton and Hingham passed on while surrounded by the love of her family on September 22, 2015. She was born as the daughter of the late Anna and Samuel Lazarus, June 2, 1925, and sister of late Jacob Jocko Lazarus. As the beautiful wife of Nathan Ernest, she truly relished her role of mother to Sharyn Kirsner, Shelley Abrams and husband Joe, Paula Asnes and husband Neal, Cindy Stewart and husband Ed, Faith Morton and husband Gregg, and Kym Lamarre and husband David. Her life further blossomed as Big Nan to grandchildren, Erica, Chad, Shanna, Heather, Ashley, Meghan, Britny, Shannon, Jocelyn, Brandon, and Gregg Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Isabella, Sophia, Camden, Landry, and Emma; and as a special Auntie Cissy to Pamela Lazarus and godson Adam Peller. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Sharyn. Dear Loved Ones of Joy,
And she was a Joy to me who only knew her this past year. We shared many special talks together not only Mahjong games. We fed each other food for thought and had many laughs and some tears. She also provided me with real food treats during our battle of the tiles. Linden Ponds is not an easy place to make deep friendships as we did earlier in life. From the moment I met Cissy, we each felt we had known one another a long time. I don't have to tell you how special she was as a person as you have known that well. If I was a much younger person, I would have adopted her as my mother because my mom was not a Cissy in the way she loved. I will have to be satisfied in being her friend which was for so short a time. If I may quote the famous poet Lord Byron who wrote Tis better to have loved and lost than never having loved." Cissy and I shared the love of poetry among other things. I will end with an interesting story that should have been a signal that Cissy knew the end of September was special but not in the way we would have believed. Last month she admired earrings I was wearing and asked if we could trade some piece of her jewelry for them. I wanted to take them off and just give it to her, but she would not agree. She said she had a birthday coming toward the end of September and I could give her them as a birthday present although she still would want to give me something back. Now I learn that her birthday is in June. What more do I have to say about what she knew in a way that none of us would have believed. This reflection is my way of giving her those earrings and what she is able to give back to me now are memories of a short but loving friendship between two souls who made contact at a time of life when new is not a word we deal with. I will miss her very much but I will not forget this kindred spirit that was my Joy.
With much caring and affection,
Sondra Adelman

Holding you all close to my heart with love and prayer. I'll never forget the first time we laid eyes on Cissy as you all moved to Cynthia Road. Our dull, at times, neighborhood was turned on it's heels when this raven haired woman drove passed her soon-to-be new home several times per week in her red Convertible Cadillac. Your mom was larger than life in all that she did. She loved hard, laughed big, and was entirely devoted to all who called her friend. She won't be forgotten, it would be impossible to do so. Much love to you all. Lauren
