Ginny, I wanted to send an email to Dick and when I was notified that the address was no longer in force, I searched on Google and was saddened to learn of Dick's passing. Ilene and I send our sincerest condolences. We both spent our high school years with Dick as a good friend and remember him most fondly.

Is anyone in charge of his voluminous computer files? In particular I am looking for a Jewish Time Line, which I believe he sent to me several years ago. My address is [email protected] Again, please know that he was an important part of our growing up years. Bob Cowen

I extend my heartfelt condolences to Ginny, Judy, Ellen, Jonathan, and to Dick's wonderful family. Dick was so proud of you all. Everyone has a person in their life who makes a profound difference. For me, and for the many who had the privilege of knowing him, that person was Dick Strauss. Dick took a chance on me at the tender age of 18. He believed that everyone deserved an opportunity even though it didn't always work out for the best. Fortunately, for me, it was the beginning of a highly successful career with Dick at Balston, Inc. Being Dick's right hand man from the company's inception until he retired twenty years later, I was in the enviable position of working alongside an outstanding leader who motivated people by example. Dick was unusually demanding, extremely honest, very fair, and highly predictable to all. And if he didn't approve of what we did, we got the "hairy eyeball". Enough said. Dick was like a second father to me. He was my mentor and he was my friend. I was determined to exceed his expectations in everything that I did. He brought out the best in all of us. Dick sincerely cared about people and made it possible for his employees to have excellent medical coverage for their families. His company had a heart because he had a heart. So very different from business today. One of Dick's former colleagues described him to me many years ago as a man who knows a lot about everything. Thank you, Dick, for sharing your brilliance with us, giving us the opportunity to succeed, pushing us to reach our potential, and not letting us stop even when we got there.

Mr. Strauss recognized hard working people and rewarded them. He was very good to me and my family when I had surgery during my employment with Balston.

So sorry to hear about Dick. I will always remember getting together at Ruth's with all the cousins. Seems like a lifetime ago. My father sends his condolences as well. Susan Sachs Patrick
