Dorothy Neilson, 96, died peacefully at Westminster Village Health Center in Muncie, Indiana on October 17, 2018. Dorothy Louise Neilson was born on July 29, 1922 in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, the daughter of Patrick J. Byrnes and Amy Jane (Matthews) Byrnes. Dorothy grew up in Medford, MA where her father was a businessman and her mother a seamstress. In 1940, Dorothy graduated from West Medford High School. After graduating, she went to work for John Hancock Insurance Co. in Boston. She married George H. Neilson of West Medford, a World War II veteran and recent Harvard Business School graduate, on September 11, 1948. George preceded Dorothy in death after 44 years of marriage in 1992. Dorothy moved from the Boston area in 1962 and after several moves, made her home and life in Elkhart, Indiana. Dorothy is survived by her eight children: George (Hutch) Jr. (wife, Linda) of Pennington, NJ; Bob (wife, Joyce) of Kendallville, IN; Gary (wife, Trudy Havens) of Glencoe, Ill; Beth Hahn (husband, Dale) of Muncie, IN; Gretchen Moser (husband, Jim) of Littleton, CO; Mark of San Diego, CA; Donna Stajkowski (husband, Jim) of Middlebury, IN; and Kris Neilson of Madison, WI.
