Anna...My condolences on Jim's passing. I remember him at NJHS in 1953. He served notice that he would be called Mr. Maloney, not 'Zip' as in the past. I had him for gym at NHS as well. He asked me to run the spotlight at one of the NHS gym meets. I saw the note from Carol Devine Jackman. It is nice to have long-time friends in a time of sorrow.

My condolences to Jim, Dick, Billy, and family.
I never had "Zip" as a coach, but had him as a gym teacher, and nobody in my era would have called him that to his face. He commanded respect, and he earned it. He challenged us to perform better in the fitness tests than we thought we could. Some of us volunteered to be on a drill team for the 1968 gym show. He taught us how to march in various formations and do fancy tricks with our wooden rifles while marching. We put on a darn good show and I never had so much fun getting barked at and ordered around.

Jim gave me my first professional position out of college. I had the pleasure of his expert advice and guidance in 3 NHS positions: girls' athletic trainer, athletic coach in J.V. field hockey and J.V. softball, and P.E. teacher. I never had the chance to thank him for all the opportunities. Truly a forward thinking guy, who loved his teachers, coaches, and athletes. Rest well, Jim.

Jim, Dick and Billy,
Just found out about your Dad's passing. I am so sorry to have missed his services.
They just don't make them like "Big Zip" anymore. He was a firm disciplinarian who taught us right from wrong...not that we always practiced it.
I will say a prayer for you and your families.
