An Irish Funeral Prayer

Death is nothing at all.
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Everything remains as it was.
The old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no sorrow in your tone.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was.
There is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.
All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting, when we meet again.

Dear Denise and the Miller family. Please accept my deepest condolence on John's passing. I first met John in 1970 when I moved to Marshfield after getting out of the Army. I was in need of work while waiting to get on the police department and John gave me a job at his Marshfield Sunoco station. I'll always be grateful to him for that as I was married with two children and no income. Semper Fi Brother.

My deepest condolences to the entire Miller family and friends on your sudden loss of John.

John and I worked together for many years, off and on; first at Hanscom Air Force Base and then, DCMA in Boston. We were able to catch up some in December at the Legal Office's Open House. As usual, we talked about some of the laughs we had, how his "girls" were doing, and how big the family has grown over time.

As always, it was clear to me from our conversation that he loved his family very much and he was enjoying life and I am sure will be sorely missed by all.

My best wishes to you all in this time of sadness.
