Malcolm Hill Obituary

Malcolm R. Hill, of Holbrook, formerly of Quincy, passed away peacefully, August 2, 2015, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 84, after an extended period of failing health. Born and raised in Quincy, he graduated from Quincy High School. He then went on to graduate from Northeastern University and later Boston State, where he received his masters degree in Education. Malcolm proudly served his country in the Navy during the Korean War, where he was a member of the Chosin Few. Soon after, Malcolm began a 30-year career as a school teacher, first in New York and then retiring after 25 years as a Social Studies teacher at Randolph High School. An avid runner who ran several marathons, made him the perfect choice as the coach for the Randolph High School track team, cross country team and his induction into the Randolph Athletics Hall of Fame. After his retirement from teaching, Malcolm took to his real love, fishing. He received his captains license and began a charter fishing boat company and a commercial lobster business. He got the most joy out of bringing people out fishing on his boat. He was a member of the Natasket Salt Water Club, Teachers Union and a member of the Mayflower Society, being a direct descendant of Peregrine White. Malcolm was the beloved husband of Bernadette (Gotovich) Hill; loving father of Andrew Hill and his wife Delina of Waltham and the late Jason Hill; devoted brother of Judith Dean of Laconia, N.H., and George Hill of Ocala, Fla.; dear grandfather of Johnathan and Drew; and step-grandfather of Felicia and Valerie. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 69 So. Franklin St. (Rte. 37), Holbrook. A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 6, 2015, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday, August 5, 2015, from 4-8 p.m. Burial in Union Cemetery, Holbrook. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Hospice of the South Shore, 30 Reservoir Park Dr., Rockland, MA 02370. I remember back in the 50's when Malcolm was running marathons. Just couldn't imagine anyone running 26.2 miles. He inspired me to start running.

I was fortunate to run for Coach Hill in the early 80s. Always appreciated his humor and his honesty. Rest in peace.
