To the family of Willie McCool.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. We, in San Jose, are still mesmerized by the loss of the Space Shuttle Colombia and her crew. I personally felt sad when Willie's name was mentioned among Colombia's crewmates. We (twin brother Ramon and I) knew Willie back in Dededo Junior High and John F. Kennedy High School. We ran track and were in Jazz and summer bands. He played the trumpet and was a good long distance runner. He was really cool. He rode his bike from Andersen AFB to JFKHS in Tumon. He loved the island and the people there. Ramon and I are so very fortunate to have known Willie. I just recently learned of Willie's achievements and was happy for him for all his accomplishments and making it to NASA's Astronaut Corps. It's sad that all we have of Willie now is in our hearts. May the Good Lord bless and keep you all in his tender care as you try to survive this tragic loss. May Willie's wonderful life be never forgotten, and may the
Good Lord shine His Light on Willie and his family forever.

God Bless Mr. McCool. Though I never met him I know he was a great person. When I grow up I want to become an astronaut and a pilot, and when I accomplish it, it will in his memory. God Bless his wife, 3 sons and parents. He was a great person because of you and he will be in our memories forever. We will never forget. May he rest in peace and always watch over his family and the world.

"For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other living thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 8:38-39
We are one family, and we are never alone.
May God bless you all and grant you peace.

I join the nation in mourning the loss of Commander William McCool. His family has lost a brave loved one. The Navy has lost a good sailor, and the space program a dedicated astronaut. He knew how to "run the good race" in every sense of the phrase. May he now rest in peace.
