For Senator Proxmire...

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

When my mother a Peruvian lady went to the American Embassy in Lima, Peru to obtain her Tourist Visa so she can visit me and my family, she was told to hit the road.
because she was told "will take the opportunity to stay in The States" never mind that she has been here before and always returned to Peru.
I was advised to visit Mr. Proxmire's office in Madison, and sure enough...in 15 minutes he had the Embassy in Lima called my mom for a second interview and formally apologize the way she was treated, also a visa to visit her family in The States, which she did and...she went back to Peru.
On her way out of the Embassy, the American Counsel ask her to "Mention to Senator Proxmire that he was served".

My strongest memory of Sen. Proxmire were his guest appearances on Martin Agronsky's Face the Nation. Martin and his crew were tough on their guests but Sen. Proxmire was not only the most articulate guest i had ever heard on the show..but he was the most prepared.. with all the relevant facts and figures to answer all their questions. By the end of the interview, the Senator's right on replies to his questioners generally had them running for cover.

My deepest sympathy to the family of a great American. Few have the integrity and wisdom of this wonderful man. There should be another campaign finance reform and anti corruption bill named after him.

I remember Mr. Proxmire best through his son Charlie. I knew Charlie when I was a student @ Stephens College and he was studying at Univ of Missouri. We had wonderful times and he always spoke so proudly about his father.

A very great and unusual man has passed. We are sorely in need of more leaders with the integrity and fortitude of Sen. Proxmire. His refusal to go with the party line or business D.C.-STYLE was a tribute to a true Christian politician. Blessings and condolences to his family. There should be a school for beginning politicians, maybe a little of his decency and fairness would be imbued in a few of those who claim to love America rather than themselves.

My deepest sympathy to the Proxmire family.
Thank you Senator Proxmire for fighting for the little guys. I can recall when my dad and his friend were alive they would meet weekly at each other's home on a Friday or Saturday night and during many conversations your name was mentioned. I recall them saying we need more people like you that cares for all of us. For that I thank you.
My you rest in peace
Tom
