My dearest Tyler and Travis,
I just found out about Eric today. Please know I am so very sorry for your loss. I can't even tell you how much I wish I could talk with you both. I am Sonya Morgan. Eric was my first cousin. I am not sure if you remember me or not. I know you both met Grandma Briles, and I remember when you both were small.
I remember when I was young, your dad came down to grandma's and he played his guitar, and he sang. He had the most beautiful voice. That is the only real memory of family time I have of us. I know there were a few other times together, and a couple years ago, I stopped by his business and saw him. Growing up, he was always the person I admired most in my family, though I know he did not know it. I always looked forward to the yearly conventions because I knew I would get to see him.
I have always loved you both, even though I never got to know you well.
With love always! I wish Eric could have realized how much I wanted to be part of his life.
Sonya

Eric,
I really wish now that I had met you earlier in life. From the moment we met, you made me feel as though we were lifelong friends. You inspired me as a business man and I was taken by all the possibilities you saw for new business ventures. I will always cherish the brief time I spent with you, your family and associates this summer. To your loved ones and associates, I give my deepest condolences.

I grew up with Eric through Elementary and Junior High and then in our senior year in High School we were photography partners at the G'bo Vocational Center. I got to know Eric very well and could see that his talent as a photographer was outstanding. I still have some of his photo's framed in my office. He had taken great shots of Jackson Browne and his band and shared all of these with me. They are beautiful!! He was a talented, independent, intelligent and generous soul who could always make me laugh. I am very sorry for your loss. But maybe he can teach us all to follow your own path and remain kind to all in your journey.

Travis and Tyler, I met your dad three years ago and we became instant friends! He had a generous warm heart, a wonderful quick sense of humor, he made me laugh! He was intelligent, deep and wise. Most importantly he loved you both so very much and was so proud of you!! I will miss him but I know he is dancing with angels looking down and watching over his boys.

Love to Tyler and Travis; you are your Father's pride and joy. Last December was profoundly memorable because I got to spend it with all of you. You are both wonderful men and I know that your Dad's love of nature, shared celebration/memory making and his open generous hand has a lot to do with that.

There will never be another soul like yours. A loss so great and so deep that time will never heal for some.
For all of your words, your music, the wildflowers you picked, the photographs you took, the glances and smiles you gave, the pain that you felt and the love that you gave, my heart bleeds.
For your boys, who you loved so dearly, my prayers and most heartfelt sympathy.
It will be a long and lonely lifetime without you my friend. I know you have found peace and rest in the loving company of the Jesus that you knew to be true.

The eyes to our souls speak without ever saying a word.

To Eric's sons and loved ones: Your dad touched hundreds of lives around the world, including mine, so you should be so very proud of him. I never met him in person, but recognized his great humor, wit, kindness, and sensitivity in his writings. He seemed like the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back before worrying about his own needs. Travis and Tyler, he loved you so much and talked about you constantly. Please accept my deepest condolences at this tragic time.
