I had the pleasure of being a co-worker with Jim in the office at Port Edwards. My fondest memory of working with Jim is when Georgia-Pacific purchased the facility in 1990 and said that on time delivery needed to be measured, and that the traffic department would do it.
We (I) didn't even know what an on time delivery was, much less how to measure it.
Jim to the rescue. He started applying a manual measurement process to orders. We all learned what needed to be done through Jim's work. The process was eventually put on the computer, but that programming would have never been successful without the work Jim did at the very beginning of the project.
I enjoyed his company, and admired his professionalism and dedication. Certainly he was one of the easiest persons I have ever worked with.
Sorry for your loss, Mertes Family. He was a great guy that will be missed.
