I was surprised to see that Richard had left the Temptations when they came to Virginia Beach, VA in 1995.
From reading the autobiography of the TEMPTATIONS that founding member Otis Williams wrote in 1988, I learned that Richard could have been the 4th to join. We know he later replaced the 4th (Paul Williams) joining with "Superstar (Remember How You Got Where You Are)". I believe that made him the 8th to become a Temptation.
The obituary left out that he was with the quartet, The MONITORS in 1966. They had two charted singles on V.I.P and one album on SOUL. I have not been able to find out what happened to the other three after Richard became a Temptation. The Monitor's songs were great, but I doubt if many people can remember the songs.
Thankful for his contribution to the group and his work with Motown.
He is the second one to pass in February.
I do not have a favorite song he sung lead on because there are so many I like, such as "Aiming At Your Heart", "Heavenly", and "Hey Girl (I Like Your Style".
Technology now allows us to view the performances again and as frequently as possible.
Richard will not be forgotten no matter how much he will be missed.
I just hope I will find a radio station that will play these songs as a tribute. I will be going around the local broadcast frequencies searching.
Will he be honored or recognized by the now R&B formatted stations? From what I have been hearing, it is doubtful. What a shame.
