XENIA A "Celebration of Life" service for Pastor Gary D. Robinson will be held Monday, 1 p.m., at North Side Christian Church, Xenia, Ohio, where he was Senior Pastor. Gary went home to be with the Lord Thursday, October 24, after struggling with pancreatic cancer. He was 58. Born in Prestonsburg, KY, son of Homer and Eunice Robinson, Gary was raised in the South Point and Findlay, Ohio areas. A graduate of Kentucky Christian University, Gary received a Master of Divinity degree from Lincoln Christian Seminary, and a Master of Ministry degree from Kentucky Christian University. Prior to coming to North Side, Gary served Alvin Christian Church, Alvin, IL, Indian Run Christian Church, East Canton, OH, Conneautville Church of Christ, Conneautville, PA, and also worked as a new church planter in Kent, OH. Gary authored several sermon collections, a book, Superman on Earth: Reflections of a Fan and numerous articles for secular and Christian publications. He maintained a blog at garydrobinson.com called "Look! Up in the Sky: Where Preaching and Pop Culture Meet." He loved acting and was involved in X*Act Community Theatre, Xenia, OH. His favorite role was portraying Elwood P. Dowd in "Harvey." From Gary's own description, he was a hiker, an actor, a reader, a lover of old movies, country music, and blueberry pancakes. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Barbara E. (Sigle) Robinson; a daughter, Ruth M. Robinson, currently residing in Shanghai, China, engaged to be married to Glen Porritt December 14, 2013; a son, Alexander J. Robinson, married to Jamie (Oliver) Robinson; and three grandsons, Will, Luke, and Cole Robinson; and a sister, Patricia (Robinson/Harvey) Griffith, Beaver Falls, PA. Gary faithfully served his Lord as a pastor and was much loved; he strove to be a "preacher and a friend". In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gary's honor to North Side Christian Church, Hospice of Dayton, or Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Condolences may be made to the family at www.NeeldFuneralHome.com.

Gary was a wonderful pastor. When he was in Kent, OH at Faith Family Fellowship he was always able to put the Word into everyday application. He also baptized my husband and I. My thoughts and prayers are with Barb and family during this time but I know God will bring all of you comfort. We were so blessed to know this man and his family. Love and prayers from the Ruble family, Kent, OH.

I was only acquainted with Barb and Gary at KCC. However, even then one could sense the presence of the Lord in Gary's life. My prayers for Barb and those still remaining, at their great loss. I rejoice with the angels at his forwarding address. In His Love, Jody (Tolbert) Holbert class of '79 KCC.

Barb & Family: I'm so sorry for you all on the passing of Gary. Now he and my dad are together once again. I will be eternally grateful for all that Gary did for Dad before his passing and for the beautiful service he must have worked on so hard at his funeral. I can only hope someone will do such an excellent job on Gary's behalf at his celebration of life service on Monday. He was indeed a unique individual and a wonderful pastor. Someday maybe we'll understand why God chose to take him so early in his life - he was doing such wonderful work for God here on Earth. But for now, all we know is God called him home for a higher purpose. He will definitely be missed. May you find some comfort knowing he is now at peace with Jesus and God and no longer in such pain. And as he ended his service for my Dad two years ago, "WOW" for all he accomplished in his time here on Earth.
