Earl Anderson Obituary

YORK Earl Fleetwood "Teak" Anderson passed away Thursday evening, October 24, 3013, at York Hospital. He was born in Winterstown, on July 11, 1931, to the late Mariam (Oberlander) Anderson and the late George W. Anderson. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion. The Rev. Dr. Ken Loyer and The Rev. Richard B. Starr will be officiating at the service. Viewings will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday and 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Garden in York, with full military honors by the Dallastown American Legion. Earl was a 1949 graduate of Red Lion High School. On June 13, 1951, he married M. Dolores Wilkins and they shared 62 years of life together. During the Korean War he served in San Antonio, Texas, in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. For more than 55 years he was the owner and sole proprietor of Earl F. Anderson Plumbing and Heating. He finally retired just months ago at the age of 82. Earl served as a Pack Leader of Cub Scout Pack 50 throughout the 1960's, was a member of the Red Lion American Legion, and a long time member and past president of York Township Lions Club. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow of the Lions Clubs International Foundation for his dedicated humanitarian services. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church of Spry. He grew up an avid hunter and fisherman and became an avid golfer in his adult life playing for years in the Ramclif Golf league each summer. He was a frequent winner of the season long event. Earl was one of four brothers and was preceded in death by his oldest brother, George Anderson of York Township. His surviving brothers are Ray Anderson of York Township, and Ross Anderson and his wife, Diane, also of York Township. He is also survived by two sons, David L. Anderson and his wife, Ann of Red Lion, and Scott Allen Anderson and his wife, Lynn of Tempe, Ariz. In addition, he is survived by four grandchildren, Nicole Houk, Drew Anderson, Joseph Anderson, and William Anderson; his "adopted grandson", Chris Houk; and three great-grandchildren, Grace Houk, Pippa Houk, and Owen Le Anderson. Earl leaves behind many, many beloved aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors, friends, and his loyal customers. He was a hard working, honest, caring, respectful, and loving man of few words with a rare combination of wit and wisdom. He always put other's needs before his own. His family and his dog, Etta, brought him the most joy. He will be truly missed by all who were fortunate to know him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Otterbein United Methodist Church of Spry, 50 School Road, York, PA 17402; or Animal Rescue, Inc., 2 Heritage Farm Drive, New Freedom, PA 17349. Not sure what to say?

Scott, Dave, and family,
my deepest sympathy for your loss. I smiled when I read about your dad's love for golf. My first time on a "real" course was with your dad a very long time ago. he was very patient to put up with me, and you too, Scott! I am sure he will be missed.

To the Anderson family, Our thoughts and prayers are with you. My children and I knew him from the restaurant where we worked. What a great guy. Always answered my plumbing questions, and told me how to fix it. With deepest sympathy, Crystal, Landon, & Kendra

I golfed numerous times with Earl in the Ramcliff golf league and he was always a pleasure to be around. It was always easy to identify his ball with the large monogram on it. RIP Earl
