Steve made a home for me at the Fairfield [Conn.] Historical Society, where I did consulting for several years. That work and his friendship helped me get through a difficult period in my life. He helped me move to "Balmer," one of his favorite cities, too! I owe him in the best way and will always feel lucky to have known him.

Some peoole just stand out when you have conversations with them. Steve was that way in person and when we sent e-mails back a forth from Fairfield CT to SE Virginia.
He will be missed by many as he touched

Father in Heaven, please rest the soul of our beloved Steve. The most incredible man I'VE ever known! So knowing of everything he speaks! My husband and myself met Steve Many years ago while marching with the Hanover Lancers. He would talk for a while about what work needed to be finished. Steve was a brilliant man, and So very loyal to everyone he touched! There is more of his history that has not been touched on!

ALLENTOWN!! Best times, you smart man!
smooch!

I first met Steve in the early 70s when Stan Dutterer arranged for Steve and Walt Mitzel to assist Bob Zarfoss with the drum line of the Hanover Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps. What a team of instructors! Even though I was bugle player (yes ... there are Bugles in a Drum Corps), I got to know Steve very well in the many late-night/early-morning discussions in parking lots after practices, competitions, DCI East, etc. Heck, I was convinced we had the solutions to fix all of the world's problems. In actuality, I would wake up the next afternoon and discover that all the problems were still there, but now I had a headache. Oh well, they were wonderful times in my life. I always considered Steve to be a very good friend and mentor. I knew Steve to be a true gentleman. But, after reading some of the other tributes to Steve, I would say the best word to describe him is “calming”. That will always be my memory of Steve. I will miss you buddy!

Steve was one of the truly good and kind people you meet in life. I had the pleasure of working with him at the Fairfield historical society for many years. Although we didn't have much contact after he left, I considered him a wonderful friend and feel blessed to have known him. My deepest sympathy and condolences to Steve's family. Rest in peace.

I met Steve through his cousin Clarence and the 3 of us became very close in the mid-60's until we all went in the Air Force. I have only seen Steve a couple of times since but I know we have remained friends in our memories. We had so many good times during the White Rose days, I believe he let me carry his drum sticks a couples of times because I couldn't do anything else. Steve was truly a great person 50 years ago and I'm sure he remained the same during his lifetime. RIP Steve nows join the big drum line now for eternity. You will be missed.

I met Steve when he became a member of the USAF Pipe Band, and we have remained friends every since...over 45 years. He was alwasy a steady and calm soul, and a great drummer. Always quick with a joke or a prank, and forever smiling. His tireless work in bringing rudimental drummers together with the USARD will be a lasting tribute to his memory. It was an honor to have performed with Steve in the USAF Pipe Band (Band of Brothers). RIP my dear friend.

To the family of Steve Young

Connie and I are sincerely sorry to hear of the passing of Steve. We hope you will find peace and strength in your faith, family and friends at this time of loss.

I first met Steve in th 60's when he came to the Westshoremen and played tympani for us and since then knowing him in the Drum & Bugle Corps activity. It is really difficult to believe he is gone, especially after having just had a lenghty talk on the phone and in person for the drum convention however I know many of us will, simply put, NEVER forget him...we will miss his wonderful attributes and remember his special laugh...RIP Dear Friend...

I know you are missed by the members of the class of '65 at CHS and the York White Roses Jr. Drum and Bugle Corps, USAF and York College. Thank you for all the memories and all the days you brightened for me eating lunch together in the cafeteria. :) I will always remember you with a smile in my heart.
