Phyllis E. Stauffer

SPRING GROVE Phyllis E. (Hoffman) Stauffer, 79, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in York. She was the loving wife of Samuel H. Stauffer, who passed away in 2001. Phyllis was born in York, on August 31, 1933, and was the daughter of the late Thomas Hoffman and Susan (Baublitz) Hoffman Waite. She graduated from Spring Grove High School class of 1952. She was a member of Great Hope Baptist Church in Carlisle. She enjoyed attending the Open Door Church Gospel Music Jams, reading, researching genealogy, and also played the autoharp. She was a homemaker most of her life and cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Phyllis is survived by her sons, Stephen Stauffer and wife, Barbara of Spring Grove, Terry Stauffer of Spring Grove, Christopher Stauffer and companion, Terry Becker of Spring Grove, and Timothy Stauffer and wife, Kelly of Virginia; her daughters, Linda Grangrade of Thomasville, Dianne Copenheaver and husband, John of York Springs, and Cynthia Ott and husband, Scott of Spring Grove. She is also survived by her 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her dear friend, Dennis Messersmith; her niece, Cathy Swisher; and nephew, Craig Lentz. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Jessica Copenheaver, and her sister, Jeanette Lentz. A funeral service in celebration of her life will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service PC, 175 N Main St., Spring Grove, with Pastor Dale Barrick officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband following the service at St. Peter Lischeys's Cemetery in Spring Grove. A viewing will be held on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
