I am so deeply saddened by hearing of the loss of Dame Elizabeth Murdoch. I had dearly wanted to go to the garden of a lifetime, Cruden Farm, to visit & to have the honour of meeting Dame Elizabeth but ill health prevented me. I knew time was running out. My mother Joan Mackay nee Govett & her siblings were second cousins to Dame Elizabeth who knew her & loved & admired her from their childhoods. My grandfather Hugh Govett spent a lot of his childhood visiting his aunt & uncle Rupert's farm which Dame Elizabeth remembered. My dear Aunty Steph who died in 1995 kept & cherished a little book Dame Elizabeth at 17 gave her when my aunt was very sick as a child. After my aunt died my beautiful mother & Dame Elizabeth exchanged some lovely letters. My mother would have dearly loved to have had the chance to see Dame Elizabeth again & share a wonderful afternoon talking about their the family history, an earler world & how they felt about modern times. My mother was too humble to put herself forward so the meeting never occurred. It was such a shame as they both had such similar delightful curious full of life personalities interested in everything & both were kindness, caring & genorousity personified. They both had that amazing radiant beautiful smiles. I felt they would have had the most wonderful time'together. Unfortunately my mother died in 2004. After my mother died I thought Dame Elizabeth would have appreciated knowing the warmth & inspiration & fondness which my mother & her siblings felt towards her & have a copy of my mother's eulogy which conveyed how many aspects of my mother's & Dame Elizabeth's personalities they shared in common. I also wanted to share with Dame Elizabeth my beautiful mother's extraordinary experience when she died that showed life does go on after death & the radiant light of a beautiful & loving spirit burns very bright even more so after death. Sadly due to my own ill health sharing my mother's memories & meeting Dame Elizabeth was not to be but I know now that regardless of one's views before death she now knows the extraordinary experience that occurs after death. My deepest condolences to all her family & the many that knew & loved her. I know how dearly you will all miss her as dearly as I miss my own beautiful mother every day. What a loving inspirational and beautiful human being Dame Elizabeth was in this life & what an extraordinary life achievement she attained with such grace. Thank you for all that you shared with so many.
