On behalf of my mother (Mrs Joan Dinsdale) who worked at Cruden Farm 1970/80
Celebrating a life well lived. We will cherish the memories forever.
Dame Elisabeth we have been deeply touched by the Great Love with which you have Lived your Life, thereby touching all who were within its sphere.
That supports the statement made by your son Rupert, on how your influence stretched over a century, and pretty much across Planet Earth.
You are a truly remarkable Lady, and of all the wonderful gifts with which you blessed this world, the one that touches me most deeply and personally, is the point re-iterated by Rupert:
the most satisfying aspect of your life, was your marriage to Keith.
Keith was 42 and you were 19.
The society hostesses said it was preposterous.
With true grace you sloughed off the negativities.
The fulfilment of this Love has blessed us all, and should inspire all men and women to Love each other so well, that when the person has passed on, the Love continues to enrich and nourish.
RIP to the most inspiring, loving and gracious woman I have ever had the privilege to encounter, albeit vicariously, through the media.
Love is Eternal.
A wonderful role model who led a full and satisfying life privately as well as publicly until the day she died. She will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

I called Cruden Farm 5 years ago to get support for a campaign I was about to start. I almost fainted when Dame Elisabeth Murdoch answered the phone. Dame Elisabeth Murdoch spoke to me at length and I could feel her love and compassion radiate down the line. She was such a kind, loyal and generous Lady. Lots of Love Joshua Brooker <3
Surely one of the most inspirational women of our time. May Dame Elisabeth rest in peace and light perpetual shine upon her.
A life well spent. Rest in peace beautiful lady.
The beauty of her soul shone through her eyes and smile. How blessed we are to have such a women grace our earth.
One of Australia's longtime examples of chivalry par excellance, Dame Elisabeth Murdoch AC DBE.
Recently I was watching Andre Denton interview Dame Elisabeth on his television series Elders when she was in her 100th year. He was asking her about famous last words of wisdom by people who have lived many years. She reached into her handbag and fossicked until she found the piece of paper she was looking for. Then she read a quotation she had written down. She read it twice: “No personal god need be worshipped for us to live in amazement at the beauty and immensity of creation”. She then added with a twinkling smile, “I think that's good!”
I have only admired a few other people (2 family members of mine) as much as I have admired Dame Elisabeth. I met her at Cruden Farm at an open day a month after her 100th birthday and despite not saying much as I was very nervous to be meeting my hero, I was absolutely thrilled to have briefly spoken to her. She embodied every quality I admire and I was very saddened to hear of her passing. I have often thought that the Murdoch family are extrordinarily lucky to have such a family member.
Maybe she rest in peace with Sir Keith. My condolences to the Murdoch family on their loss of such a special and irreplaceable person.

What a truly remarkable and inspiring lady. Through my involvement with the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute I have grown a greater understanding of the importance of ongoing research, and its impact on clinical outcomes around the world. Your commitment and dedication not only to the MCRI but to the RCH is truly outstanding. You will always be remembered.
I have always admired you and had the greatest respect for you since seeing you for the first time at Clyde, what a most amazing woman you were, loved by all and so generous with your time and giving. You were truly someone to look up to and be inspired by. There is no one who could replace you.

A truly gracious Lady,
Fly with the Angels Dame Elisabeth
The world has lost a wonderful inspiring and amazing Lady. A Lady who captivated your attention and listened intently and had a great sense of humour. The most charming unassuming loving and caring person you could ever meet. I was asked to do a charity day at Cruden Farm and jumped at the opportunity. I was awestruck by her property and was taken in by her garden and lemon scented gum trees. I decided to send a card of thanks and mentioned her garden and gum trees. The card had images of Lemon scented gum trees on the front. She was 93 at the time. Several months later I was doing a charity day at the McClelland Gallery and looked up and saw a lady walking briskly up the road and the nearer she got I realized it was Dame Elisabeth. I couldn't believe it. She smiled at me as she approached me, asked me something and I added and asked her ' Dame Elisabeth,I want to introduce myself to you, if you remember...... I said,' I am the person who sent you a card a few months ago thanking you for allowing me to come to your house and help raise money for X charity.' She lit up, smiled broadly, her eyes twinkled and to my astonishment said to me, 'Oh.. yes Dear! The card you sent was the card with lemon scented gum trees on the front?' I said 'Yes!!! she said,'My dear, you should write and get published, you write beautifully!' I was awestruck or dumbstruck really. I am one of her biggest fans. I returned home and decided to paint her and did. An awesome Lady who has inspired me to help others. Bless her, She will be missed by just so many people. We will never forget such a Grand Lady.
My thoughts are with Dame Elisabeths family.
You were such an inspirational, gracious, kind, loving and sincere lady. Cruden Farm will continue to florish and so too will your memory and legacy live on with so many. A beautiful rose you were. May you rest in peace.
T have the happiest memories of the generous philanthropist Dame
Elisabeth in her garden at Cruden Farm when she celebrated her 100th birthday with a great number of her friends and family
The world has lost a truly humble and inspiring woman with Dame Elisabeth Murdoch's death. Although I was never lucky enough to meet her in person, I have heard her speak and have marvelled at how down to earth she was and her genuine desire to help others. Living to 103 years is a feat in itself and she seemed to live her life well and with conviction.
Although her death is very sad, I will always remember her with admiration and hope I can be half as benevolent and kind in my lifetime. The world needs more kindness and emulating this great Lady would help to achieve this.
Rest in Peace-your legacy will live on.
Precious Dame Elisabeth - I have had a photo of you propped up on my desk for years now-you have always inspired me.
I try to emulate you & "wake up in the morning & wonder what I can do for other people". I love Jeff Kennett's tribute that you leave "a Legacy of Absolute Goodness".
I marvel at your modesty & your innate practical nature & how humble you've been while helping so MANY for so many years!
I've wept reading so many of the AMAZING Tributes in this Book & all I can say is that I'm sure you're up in heaven now with your beloved Keith, laughing in each others arms forever.
You precious, beautiful inspiring woman...you'll always be in my heart & mind & I'll always think of you with wonderment.

What a sad loss to Australia. My condolences to the Murdoch family.
Dame Elisabeth was the quintessential Melburnian matriarch. May her memory be a blessing to the city & state to which she was so indefatigably & faithfully devoted.
A great lady, what a sad loss to Australia
Dame Elisabeth Murdoch was a national treasure and truly inspirational. My deepest sympathy to her family.
I lost my own mother last week aged 92. I adored my mother and she was the one constant in my life and I'm struggling with the fact I will never see her again just as I'm sure Dame Elisabeth's family are also. Just as my mother was my inspiration so was Dame Elisabeth, not only to her own family but many thousand of others. If only the world were made up of people of their calibre.
I was very sad to hear of the passing of such a warm and lovely lady. Even though I never met her she has touched my life when reading about the work she has done especially with children as I am a Kindergarten teacher. Dame Elisabeth is one of Australia's true treasures who will live on and on in our hearts and in future generations.Dame Elisabeth would have made an amazing Prime Minister as she always showed compassion, honesty and genuine warmth towards and for everyone.
To the Murdoch family I am truely sorry for your loss and I send you my best wishes during this sad time
Kind regards Sharon Saitta
What a truly amazing woman. Her eloquence, courage, humility and wisdom will continue to inspire many generations of Australians to come. She is a wonderful example of the immense good that one person can do.
I just watched a repeat of the tv show called Elders,I did not know her but she came across as a lovely lady. My condolences to all her extended family.

God bless her, may she rest in peace.
What a great Lady she was I never met her but saw her on TV & she struck me as being the real deal God Bless you Dame Elisabeth
There should be more ladies like her.
All my life Dame Elisabeth was my ideal grandmother as we had no grandparents as we grew up. Her always smiling face, those intense blue eyes and thousands of smile lines showed the type of person she was. We, like many Australians, thought of her as a wise, wonderful and kind grandparent. Sincere sympathy to her family.
A lovely lady who was always willing to open her property for kindergarten children at Christmas. Her class and grace was unequalled. Dame Elisabeth, you will be missed tremendously.
To the Murdoch family my depest condolences go out to you all R.I.P to a fine lady who will be surely missed by everyone xo

A beautiful lady with a beautiful garden who was willing to share everything she had with all of us. She will be greatly missed. Glenda
I am so deeply saddened by hearing of the loss of Dame Elizabeth Murdoch. I had dearly wanted to go to the garden of a lifetime, Cruden Farm, to visit & to have the honour of meeting Dame Elizabeth but ill health prevented me. I knew time was running out. My mother Joan Mackay nee Govett & her siblings were second cousins to Dame Elizabeth who knew her & loved & admired her from their childhoods. My grandfather Hugh Govett spent a lot of his childhood visiting his aunt & uncle Rupert's farm which Dame Elizabeth remembered. My dear Aunty Steph who died in 1995 kept & cherished a little book Dame Elizabeth at 17 gave her when my aunt was very sick as a child. After my aunt died my beautiful mother & Dame Elizabeth exchanged some lovely letters. My mother would have dearly loved to have had the chance to see Dame Elizabeth again & share a wonderful afternoon talking about their the family history, an earler world & how they felt about modern times. My mother was too humble to put herself forward so the meeting never occurred. It was such a shame as they both had such similar delightful curious full of life personalities interested in everything & both were kindness, caring & genorousity personified. They both had that amazing radiant beautiful smiles. I felt they would have had the most wonderful time'together. Unfortunately my mother died in 2004. After my mother died I thought Dame Elizabeth would have appreciated knowing the warmth & inspiration & fondness which my mother & her siblings felt towards her & have a copy of my mother's eulogy which conveyed how many aspects of my mother's & Dame Elizabeth's personalities they shared in common. I also wanted to share with Dame Elizabeth my beautiful mother's extraordinary experience when she died that showed life does go on after death & the radiant light of a beautiful & loving spirit burns very bright even more so after death. Sadly due to my own ill health sharing my mother's memories & meeting Dame Elizabeth was not to be but I know now that regardless of one's views before death she now knows the extraordinary experience that occurs after death. My deepest condolences to all her family & the many that knew & loved her. I know how dearly you will all miss her as dearly as I miss my own beautiful mother every day. What a loving inspirational and beautiful human being Dame Elizabeth was in this life & what an extraordinary life achievement she attained with such grace. Thank you for all that you shared with so many.
An amazing woman and role model for us all. So many people have been blessed and helped by her generosity and hard work. My deepest sympathy to the family at their loss.
It was a privilege to have met you and to be involved in The Dolphin research project that you supported. It was always special to visit Cruden Farm as a child living in Langwarrin. You were an amazing woman and you will be missed... RIP.
Dame Elisabeth was a rare example of a good and kind human being. She used her wealth for good and did not flaunt it as so many do today. She saw it as an opportunity to quietly and graciously help others. She radiated love, warmth caring and kindness. I am sure there is a wonderful place for her in heaven.
I am so sorry that SHE HAS LRFT.MAY SHE BE IN PEACE WITH LORD JESUS.
This wonderful, kind, generous Lady will be sorely missed by the entire Australian community. We remember her especially for her unstinting work for the Royal Children's Hospital and the Murdoch Foundation.
My only regret is that I didn't have the pleasure of meeting you Dame Elisabeth. I have heard so many beautiful stories and read so much about you. You are a true inspiration! My deepest sympathy goes to all your family. You are an Australian treasure… xx With love Josie Sheehan xx
Rest in Peace Mrs. Murdoch. You have indeed lived a very long blessed life. Thank you very much for your service to the people of Australia. You will be sorely missed.
I had the pleasure of visiting Cruden Farm for the Open Garden Scheme and met Dame Elisabeth. She kindly signed my leaflet: the signature is strong. I think Dame Elisabeth was already 100 years at the time. A wonderful person.
How wonderful to have known such a caring, generous person. Australia, and indeed the world, needs more like her - a philanthropist who gave far more than money, she gave of herself. We will all miss you. Condolences to the family and her devoted staff at Cruden Farm.
God Bless You, Sweet Soul. And also,Your Family and Everyone You touched with your Loving Energy of Light !
I had the great priviledge of meeting Dame Elizabeth on a couple of occassions and I will always consider it to have been a great honour. If we could apply some of what Dame Eizabeth did the world would be a better place.
What an amazing glowing light of a life we have lost here in Victoria. Dame Elizabeth was an example of what can be done right in the world to remedy so many 'wrongs'. A beautiful strong spirit & a true community leader.
I have admired this wonderful woman for many years and the country will surely feel her sad departure. My sympathies go out to the family in their loss.
May she be in a better place.
My parents had the privilege of attending Dame Elizabeth's 80th birthday at Cruden Farm and I remember they were given a beautiful box containing a picnic lunch. I have kept this box because of the many memories of Dame Elizabeth's generosity to so many institutions.,particularly the RCH
It seems to me you were a lovely, gracious lady with an incredibly strong sense of social justice. My heart felt sympathy to the family on the loss of one so loved.
Dame Elisabeth, Dame E - what a great girl you are - I had the honor of meeting you at Cruden farm a few times. Eyes full of life, warmth and mischief. I am personally richer for those few minutes. Thank you.
A truly inspirational women.
Such a great lady with a huge heart. You will be missed by many.
Like so many people who have admired and loved Dame Elisabeth from a distance I was really happy to see her when visiting Cruden Farm. She approached people on her much loved machine, and welcomed us to her garden and talked of her admiration for her gardener. It was obvious, when we found Michael in the picking garden what a great bond they had formed. Condolences to the family and all that had the privilege of a closer relationship with a lady who touched the hearts of so many. She was truly inspiring.
Deepest sympathy to the Murdoch family. I have always admired Dame Elisabeth. She did so much good in her life. A great role model. RIP

What a wonderful, kind and beautiful lady we have lost. Your contributions to so many organisations and one such is Noah's Ark helped my grandson who has Developmental Delays, fine and gross motor and sensory processing disorder by them subsidising his cost for an additional support teacher for school holiday program each holidays. He requires extra supervision especially when they go on holiday excursions etc and your donations to Noah's ark made this possible. My daughter is a single divorced mum and this kindness helped her immensely with costs....thankyou thankyou thankyou kind lady. from Nana Christine Stewart and daughter Kylie P. Langwarrin Victoria

We would like to thank Dame Elisabeth for her magnanimous support of the Australian American Association, Victoria and she will be sadly missed.
Today a great woman has left this world. Vale Dame Elisabeth Murdoch.
"My grandmother took me to play in Dame Elisabeth's garden as a little girl, on many occasions. I remember delighting in the discoveries made, finding birds sitting on eggs in their nests, all kinds of insects and butterflies, the most amazing flowers and majestic trees...it was like heaven on earth! I know these rich connections with nature and the direct experiences had, during my formative years, have influenced the work l am doing as an adult, connecting children with nature. Dame Elisabeth had a lifelong commitment to improving children's health and wellbeing. She annually invited our local 'Natured Kids' outdoor playgroup to play at Cruden farm, and has always supported my work with families and their young children outdoors. Most recently helping to fund our 'Play Outside Australia' project. Dame Elisabeth delighted in seeing her garden full of children, up until recently, would come and chat to the families. After our last visit to play in her magical garden, she was less mobile, so we sent her copious photographs of our Cruden farm adventures, and her lovely assistant Hennie, shared them with her via a laptop. This gave Dame Elisabeth great joy. I only met Dame Elizabeth once, which was when she kindly offered to assist our business with the launch of a new plant at the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show named in honour of the founder (Tilly Aston) of the Blind Society. I clearly recall her kindness, politeness, jovial personality and wit and i remember thinking at the time how the world could do with a few more Dame Elizabeths. She probably had no idea the impression she made which will last with me for ever. Sad to hear this news but I am sure she is somewhere else putting a smile on someones face.
