I worked with Steve in the mid90s. He was actually my knight in shining armor for a brief period of time. I will never forget him. My condolences to his family. RIP Steve.

Steve was my senior adviser at American Legion Boys' State on the campus of NESU in the Summer of 1975. How fortunate to grow up an avid Sooner football fan, have followed the team faithfully, and then be "saddled" by having this gregarious, fun-loving, Sooner QB give you life advice. Steve's attitude was infectious and rife with success. He understood the blessings God had bestowed on him, and he thrived with them and the hard work. He was the epitome of Oklahoma to me. Today, he rests with our Savior, but, friends, oh what a legacy he leaves. Steve, I am sorry for those you leave but honored you were one of us.

We should all be so lucky to have lived a life like Steve Davis. Not just because he was a great athlete, but because he was a great soldier for Christ. Thanks for being my role model all those years!

As I'm remembering Steve, I'm taken back to the good ole days at Sallisaw High. What a great friend he was. I remember the laughter and the many heart to heart talks about life, but what I remember most is his spiritual influence. Although I was the upper classman, I "looked up" to him. He was always there to offer his guidance when I needed it most. Even though I went to that "rival" school north of OKC, I was still very proud to call him my friend. He never missed a chance to extend an invitation to come watch him "perform." In my Sr. yearbook, he chose to sign on the Fellowship of Christian Athletes page. He left me with the verse, Phil. 4:13. That's the kind of guy he was, always relying on the strength of Christ to lead him in all things. What a glorious welcome he must have received when he met Jesus face to face. As I dearly remember his brother George, I will also remember Steve....always!!! May God's comfort, peace, and blessings be with the Davis family.

My family moved to Sallisaw in the middle of my junior year, so I didn't play football with Steve during his senior year, but we were teammates in track, and I considered George a good friend as we graduated together. Even in the short time I had a chance to associate with Steve personally, I was so impressed with his care for others and his dedication to his God. Yes, he was an All-State sports guy, but he would also often lead prayer sessions in the back of the bus on the way to track meets. Steve was not only an athletic leader, but a spiritual leader as well. While I was in college in St. Louis, my track coach came to me to ask about this amazing quarterback at OU. He was so impressed with Steve's ability to run the wishbone offense that my coach wanted to change our football team's offense to the wish bone as well..and he did the next year! I was proud to tell him I knew Steve and told him that Steve was not just a great quarterback but was a really good and Godly man. He will certainly be missed by his family and also a very broad community of people that Steve left a mark on in Sallisaw and across the globe. What will surely be our loss will be Heaven's gain.

Dear Davis Family,
My deepest sympathy to you in the loss of Steve. He was a great guy and a faithful Christian. My prayers and thoughts are with you. Although it's been many years, I still have fond memories of my friendship with Joe at Sallisaw Junior High and High School. Joe and I shared our Christian faith, love for learning and genuine friendship. My brothers, Aaron Presler and Mark Presler, played football with and were friends with George at SHS. The whole Presler family and I have the utmost respect for your family - your Christian faith and love of God, family and friends. I know that Steve is with Jesus and that you will see him again. I pray that God will bless and sustain you with the strength and comfort that only He can provide. In His love,

A winner - in football and in life!
In football, Steve studied the playbook, practiced hard and was ready when his number was called. More importantly, in life, he knew the Book, prepared well and was ready when called. Steve Davis - a true winner!

Condolences to the Davis families. I worked with Steve's brother Joe in 2000. Great Christian people. Joe always spoke so highly of his brother when we were together. God Speed.
