I did not know Rahul on a very personal level. I was at home this past weekend and started flipping through old photos of my high-school tennis matches while in Danville, Illinois. I competed against Rahul in tennis on three different occasions during high-school, all being close matches. What I remember about Rahul was his very competitive spirit along with his ability to provide a compliment after I hit a nice shot or smile after we played a long point, regardless of whether he won or lost it. I laughed when I thought about our matches, which is sadly how I eventually came across this page. I barely knew Rahul, but I thought about him 10 years later because that was the bright and memorable personality that he had. While very brief, I enjoyed the time we spent together.

Dear Dr. and Mrs. Kavuri --

I wanted you to know how sad we were to hear about Rahul. He was in my fourth grade class at Johns Hill. He was also a treasured friend of my son while at Johns Hill. I was so glad to learn that Aaron met up with him again last year at Millikin, and now we are crushed that he is gone. Twenty-three is just so terribly young -- your family is on my mind daily. Please know that warm thoughts are being sent your way.

My dear Doctor Kuvari,

I was saddened to learn, yesterday, of the tragic death of your son, Rahul. To lose a family mmeber is painful, but even more so, to lose a child in whom you have invested years of caring and nurturing. You, who have guided others through their grief and despondency, are now forced to experience one of the most dreasded events in one's life. One never fully recovers from the loss of a child. My heart goes out to you and your family with the hope that healing will begin and continue at a reasonable pace.

Rahul, your spirit is in my heart forever. Your energy, confidence, wit, and astounding intellect are with me infinitely. Your inner beauty, camouflaged by your mischievous ways, touched me in the classroom years ago, and recently whenever our paths crossed. You lived life happily and plentifully, and I suspect you reaped more from your brief time on this earth than others reap in an expected lifetime. In your memory, I shall plant flowers today, and offer my condolences to your lovely family. ~Connie Ogden

To the Kavuri family,

I met Rahul in our freshman seminar class at Millikin in the fall of 1999. Over the last 6 years he became one of my closest friends. I can honestly say I've never met anyone like him. He was one of the kindest, funniest, most intelligent people I have ever known. Rahul was the most genuine friend a person could ask for. I will miss him a great deal, but more than that I will remember him and the moments we shared.
