ANDERSON — Genevieve C. Broderick, 96, of Anderson, passed away Nov. 18, 2009 at Saint John's Medical Center after an extended illness.
She was born July 10, 1913, in Madison County, the daughter of William and Catherine (Angell) Hubbard. She had lived in Madison County all of her life and retired in 1975 from Guide Lamp after 32 years.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Annette (husband, Bernard) Staggenburg of Anderson; son-in-law, Byron Wayne Johnson of Anderson; grandchildren, Mark (wife, Michelle) Johnson of Newark, Del., Jennifer Staggenburg of Wabash, Susan Stuart of Columbus, Ohio, and Kathy (husband, Steve) Paro of Owego, N.Y.; great-grandchildren, Dr. Michael (wife, Natalie) Johnson of Birmingham, Ala., Kimberly (husband, Karl) Jung of Birmingham, Ala. and Michelle Luttman of Denver, Colo.; great-great grandchildren, Nicholas Johnson and Adriana Johnson, both of Birmingham, Ala.; brother-in-law, B. A. Broderick of Anderson; and sister-in-law, Rita Wulle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, A. J. Broderick; daughter, Janet Johnson; three grandsons, David Johnson, Phillip Staggenburg and Bruce Staggenburg; and sister, Irene Young.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Robert Williams officiating. Burial will be at East Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
GAINESBORO, Tenn. — Glen McKay Gray Jr., 38, former Anderson resident, was taken into the arms of the Lord on Nov. 18, 2009.
Glen was born Oct. 4, 1971, in Anderson, to Glen M. Gray Sr. and Debra Gray.
On June 8, 2006, he married Stephanie Cooper.
Glen worked in construction, attended the First Baptist Church in Gainesboro, Tenn., and enjoyed his life there.
Survivors include his wife, Stephanie Gray of Gainesboro, Tenn.; a son: McKay Gray of Gainesboro, Tenn.; a daughter, Haley Gray of Gainesboro, Tenn.; his parents, Glen and Debra Gray of Anderson; maternal grandmother, Lydia Smiley of Auburndale, Fla.; brothers, Andy (wife, Shonda) Gray of Gainesboro, Tenn., and Mickey (wife, Mary) Gray of Anderson; nephews, Kaylob and Nate Gray, both of Anderson; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Andy and Kathy Smith of Peru, Ind.; grandparents-in-Law, Evelyn and Fred Cooper of Anderson; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
We loved him so much, and he will be sadly missed.
Glen was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harold and Irma Gray; and maternal grandfather, Thomas Smiley.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethany Christian Church, 1920 N. Rangeline Road (corner of Cross Street and Rangeline), Anderson. Cremation has been chosen.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home, Gainsboro, Tenn.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the church.
INDIANAPOLIS — Gusta Pearl Gray, 83, of Indianapolis, formerly of Morgantown, Ky., passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Nov. 19.
Gusta was born in Butler County, Ky., in 1926 to Taylor and Dora (Shepherd) Johnson.
She is survived by her sisters, Ethyl Fields and Helen Houston; daughter Donna Kay (Phil) Hix; grandchildren Ginny (Gerald) Emil, Gary Stanley Jr., Tammy (Carl) Coyle, JeriAnn (Dave) Alcocer, Roy (Misty) Stanley, Allan Carr, Carrie (Rick) Massey, and Zach (Sara) Jones; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-greatgrandchildren; and special friends and family Clory Cannon, Coleen Woodcock, James Garner and Jamie Malone.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, James and George Johnson; sisters, Edna and Lonel Johnson; and daughters, Jerri Jones, JoAnne Jones, and Carolyn MacArthur (Bruce).
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 2 p.m., at the New Beginnings Church, 2717 S. Central Way, Anderson.

PENDLETON — George Royce Hagan, 70, of Pendleton, died Nov. 20, 2009, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, following a lengthy illness.
Royce was born June 9, 1939, in Louisville, Ky., to the late John Edward and Virginia Lee Hagan.
He was a 1957 graduate of St. Mary's High School, Anderson.
He retired in 1997 from Delco Remy in Anderson after 38 years in skilled trades. Following retirement, Royce returned to college and earned a degree that allowed him to fulfill his real passion: teaching young adults. He then served as an assistant professor of machine tool technology for nine years at Vincennes University.
He was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Society, through Ivy Tech Community College and Vincennes University. He was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel by the Commonwealth of Kentucky in 2002. He was a Model A Ford enthusiast and a member of the Model A Ford Club in Central Indiana. He also was a member of Friends of the Library, Pendleton; Hoosier 56'ers, and the SPEBSQSA Barbershop Quartet. A published author, he also enjoyed reading and playing various musical instruments. Royce and his wife of 51 years, Suzanne (Shetterly) Hagan, enjoyed quilting together and as members of the Spring Valley Quilt Guild, earned show honors for their quilting creations.
Survivors with Suzanne are three daughters, Dawn (Jeff) Evans of Ludington, Mich., Annie (Kevin Kilcoyne) Hagan of Philadelphia, Pa., and Michelle (Alan) Hagan-Short of Huntington; six grandchildren, Ryan (Sara) Evans of Muncie, Katie Evans and Jordan Evans of Ludington, Mich., Gabrielle Kramer of Philadelphia, Pa., and Alexandra Short and Rebecca Short of Huntington; a great-grandchild, Olivia Evans; two brothers, Thomas E. (Bette) Hagan of Kokomo, and John R. "Jack" (Marie) Hagan of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 2801 Lincoln St., Anderson, with the Rev. Edward F. Dhondt officiating. Burial will take place at Grove Lawn Cemetery, Pendleton.
Visitation hours will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, 211 E. State St., Pendleton.

MUNCIE — James E. McLain, 85, of Muncie, formerly of New Castle, died Friday, Nov. 20, at Westminster Village in Muncie.
James was born Feb. 10, 1924, in Henry County, a son of the late Herman and Mildred (White) McLain.
He retired from Delco Remy in Anderson following 25 years of service. For many years he and his father owned McLain and Son Drainage Contractors. James served in World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Cadiz Lions Club and the Greensboro Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lois (McKinsey) McLain, whom he married on Nov. 1, 1942; a daughter, Judy (husband: Forrest) Mellott of Greenwood, a son, Richard (wife: Connie) McLain of New Castle; three granddaughters, Kristen (husband: James) Parker of Greenwood, Tricia (husband: Brad) Edwards of Indianapolis and Lisa McLain (companion: Jim Heffernan) of New Castle; four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Fern Lapp of Palos Hills, Ill.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Electa McDonnell, Thelma Burge, Laura Kinnett and Barbara Lane and two brothers, Keith McLain and Dale McLain.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Sproles Family Funeral Home in New Castle. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

ALEXANDRIA —Jack J. McMillen, 87, of Alexandria, passed away Nov. 20, 2009 at Summit Convalescent Center, Summitville, after an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Alexandria, and resided in Madison County most of his life.Jack served his country in the U.S. Mighty Eighth Army Air Corp during World War II.
He had worked in retail retiring from Target.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 266. He enjoyed writing and was published in The Good Old Days and Reminisce magazines.
He is survived by his daughter, Diana Terry of Alexandria; two granddaughters, Desiree' Ables and companion Jeff and Dawn Ables and companion Terry; four great-grandchildren, Joshua Ables, Nicholas Beane, Kole Cook and Nathan Cook; sister-in-law, Maxine McMillen of Middletown; and friend, Charlene Martin
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sumner and Madge (Jones) McMillen; and brother, Richard McMillen.

THE VILLAGES, Fla. — Keith A. Padgett, 65, of The Villages, Fla., died Nov. 11, 2009.
He was born Oct. 2, 1944, in Anderson and moved to The Villages from West Chester, Pa., in 2006.
Keith was a retired agency administration manager for State Farm Insurance.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Lions Club, both in West Chester, Pa. He was also an elder and clerk of session, a youth leader and hospital volunteer in West Chester, Pa.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca S. (Deeren) Padgett of The Villages, Fla.; daughter, Kristin Magalhaes of Plymouth, N.H.; son, Jeffrey Padgett of Burlington, Vt.; his brother, David Padgett of Carmel, Ind.; and two grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 14 at Beyers Funeral Home in Leesburg, Fla. Interment was at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Leesburg, Fla.

MILFORD — Lawrence Edward Rich, 83, of Milford, formerly of Sebring, Fla. and Lake Tippecanoe passed away on Nov. 20, 2009, at the Goshen Hospital.
He was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Anderson to Jacob and Cecile Rich. He married Helen M. (Hastings) Rich on July 1, 1949, who preceded him in death on July 15, 1994.
Lawrence was a U.S. Navy World War II and Korea veteran, attended Indiana Business College in Anderson and was an Internal Revenue Agent. He was also a member of the North Webster American Legion.
Survivors include two sons, Michael (Rondalea) Rich of Olathe, Kan., and Brian (Teresa) Rich of Cromwell; three daughters, Deborah (Jerry) Allen of Anderson, Cynthia (Brent) Kaiser of Syracuse, and Karen (Mike) Grady of Syracuse; 17 grandchildren and five great- grandchildren, and companion Helen Dean.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Helen Rich, brothers Tom and Albert Rich.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2009 at the Mishler Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel in Syracuse. Burial will follow at the North Webster Cemetery, Mock Addition.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

BROOKELAND, Texas — Nora Mildred Saunders, 100, of Brookeland, Texas, and Fontana, Wis., formerly of Summitville, Ind., Covington, Texas, Arlington, Texas, and Rayburn County, Texas, died Friday Nov. 20, 2009 at Golden Years Nursing Home in Fontana, Wis.
The former Nora McMahan was born in Alexandria on Nov. 2, 1909, the daughter of the late Orval and Sarah (Kirkpatrick) McMahan. She was a graduate of the Summitville High School graduating with the class of 1921; she then graduated from Fort Wayne Business College. On Sept. 4, 1933, in Summitville she was united in marriage to Joseph F. Saunders; he preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 2002. She had been a sales representative in Indiana, Texas and Oklahoma for a ladies clothing line for many years.
Nora is survived by three daughters, Carole McGee of Fontana, Wis., Karin Carter of Bethany, Okla., and Lois Rogers of South China, Maine; six grandchildren, Janice Betts, Michael Stone, Joe Carter, James Rogers, Robert Rogers and David Rogers; and six great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Wayne McMahan.
Graveside services will be held in Bronnenberg Cemetery in Chesterfield.
Arrangements were made through Haase-Derrick-Lockwood Funeral Home and Crematory in Lake Geneva, Wis.
ANDERSON — Charles David Taylor, 72, went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 17, 2009, following an extended illness.
He was born May 5, 1937, in Columbia. S.C., to Thomas and Ellarene (Anderson) Taylor. He moved to Anderson with his family in 1945.
He attended Anderson Community Schools and ran track for Central Jr. High School.
Charles confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of Anderson Zion Baptist Church under the Rev. A.D. Devashir.
He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1954, worked as an airplane mechanic and received an honorable discharge.
Charles was an excellent drummer and played with his brother's jazz band during the '60s and early '70s. Since childhood, he was very fond of animals, especially horses. He was an outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. He also loved working on trucks and cars. Even through the length of his sickness, he would do any kind of work. Charles was a partner with the Taylor Brothers Trucking Company prior to moving to Meridian, Miss., in 1985 with his wife. He retired in 1995 as a truck driver for Southern Scrap and Metal Company.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 29 years, Nancy McPhaul Taylor; his mother, Ellarene Taylor of Anderson; five sons, Charles David (Annie) Taylor Jr. of Toledo, Ohio, Arthur Taylor, of Seattle, Wash., Elroy (Erica) Taylor, of St. Claire Shore, Mich., James Doc Taylor, who is now stationed in Iraq, and David Michael Taylor, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six daughters, Gerri L. Taylor of Toledo, Ohio, Veronica Watkins of Indianapolis, Ella Christine Taylor of Clinton Township, Mich., Candace (Michael) Johnson of Shelby, Mich., Gail Renee Taylor of Atlanta, Ga., and Chesha (John) Lewis of Anderson; special daughters, Annie Danielle, Dominique Sherri of Toledo, Ohio, Mary Ivory-Simmons of Roseville, Mich., and Pamela Ivory-Simmons of East Point, Mich.; brothers, Ray (Sallie) Taylor of Muncie and Jerry (Cynthia) Taylor of Seffner, Fla.; sisters, Doris "Pat" (William) Raymore and Barbara Scott, both of Anderson; sister-in-law, Joyce (Larry) Russell, brother-in-law, Clennon Agnew of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; aunts, Junita "Hon" Hendricks, Lottie Turner, Bernerdean Mitchem, Dorothy Anderson, Cornelia Boulware, Luereatha Pugh; uncle, Robert Boulware; 43 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and his special friend, John D. Wilkerson.
Charles was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Taylor; brother, Benjamin Taylor; and sister, Mildred Agnew.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Church Upon The Rock, 303 E. 29th St., Anderson, with the Rev. Anthony Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.
