William Chin Obituary

William P. Chin, Sr.

Our beloved father, William P. Chin, Sr., 89, died quietly in Everett on June 28, 2009. He was much loved and will be deeply missed.
Bill was born in Canton Province on January 16, 1920. Educated at Puying Prepatory School in Canton, at 18, he immigrated to the USA where he settled in Seattle, WA, furthering his education at Broadway High School. Following WWII military service in the US Army, he married our mother, Dorothy, of Vancouver, B.C. and settled in Everett to live and raise our large family of seven children.
Our father lived the American dream, first working the canneries in Alaska, learning the restaurant trade at the Piedmont Hotel in Seattle, then working with our grandfather, Tom, at the Shanghai Café in Everett. He and our mother would, in 48 years, own and operate seven restaurants in the Snohomish County area.
Bill is survived by his five sons and two daughters and their spouses, Howard Chin, John and Virginia Chin, of Renton, WA, Rosalyn Kwan and her husband, Patrick Kwan, of Bellevue, WA, Ronald and Suana Chin, of Mukilteo, WA, William Chin, Jr. and fiancé, Susan, Thomas and Mabel Chin, of Mill Creek, WA, and Tamara Chin. He was blessed with fifteen grandchildren, Patrick, Nicholas, Max, Michael Spencer, Matthew, Michael David, Allison, Andrea, Alexander, Andrew, Christine, Caroline, William III, Joseph and George. Bill is also survived by his nephews, Bennie Hong and Allen Chin and their families.
Bill devoted his life and love to his wife, Dorothy, who predeceased him by 15 years, and his children and grandchildren. He reveled in their success and accomplishments. His hard work resulted in graduating all seven children from college, three also earning Juris Doctorate Degrees.
Our father was a long time member of Immaculate Conception Parish, the Washington Athletic Club and former member of Long Acres Owners and Trainers Association. He was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed fishing, thorough bred horseracing, casino gaming and Chinese painting and calligraphy.
A family Rosary will be said at 9 a.m., Friday, July 3, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., at Immaculate Conception, a committal service will follow at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline. Arrangements are entrusted to Purdy & Walters with Cassidy funeral home in Everett.

Uncle Bill was an inspiration to many people, and steered the course to allow Howard, John, Rozzie, Ronnie, Billy, Tammy and Tommy to prosper and learn to work hard to achieve life goals. This has even been evident in the grandchildren who are achievers and working hard too to make a mark in their world. I remember many fond memories of summers spent in Everett and Lynnwood and also up here in Vancouver too with all my cousins. We had lots of fun and many great memories. Aunty Dorothy and Uncle Bill were always looked forward when coming up to visit us. Mom always had a special place in her heart for the entire Chin family and we will miss Uncle Bill.

Our entire clan sends our condolences and love to the Chin family and relations.

In reading of your Fathers passing, I just had to write you a note. In the summer of 1960, I was your babysitter for a few weeks. It was the summer before my senior year at Darrington High School, and also my first time away from home. I definately remember your Father as a kind and sweet man. My parents always came to Chin's restuarant on Sundays, and I believe that is how I got the job. I remember one time when John, I think, had somehow gotten the door off the track between the kitchen and the dining room. Poor thing, He was just so afraid what his Mother would say when she got home. It just happen that my parents stopped by to see me after a
Drs. appt. My wonderful Father, being the handy Man he always was, fixed the door for John. He was one very happy boy. One other time, as I was putting away the dinner dishes from the dishwasher, I found a small, pocket size Chinese dictionary. Man, was I happy, Here I go, I thought. Maybe I can understand a little bit of Chinese. I was quite disappointed after I opened it. I didn't learn a thing. I just want to say, I am thinking of you all. I lost my dear Dad 3 years ago and that void will never be filled. I evidently got too homesick and did not stick out the summer but it was a great experience for me. I loved it while I was there. Take care, my Husband and I have been wishing for ages, we could run into a CHIN'S place again. Are there any?? May your great memories give you peace.
