Kathrine Hobbs Obituary

Hobbs, Kathrine Hamilton
Jan. 26, 1924 - March 22, 2009

Kathrine Hamilton "Kit" Hobbs, 85, of Bradenton, formerly of Old Greenwich, Conn., Riverside, Conn, and New York City died March 22, 2009.
A service of celebration will be at 2 p.m. May 2 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bradenton.
Survivors include sons Peter H. of Hamilton, Mass., Matthew H. of San Francisco, and Howard W. of Kukuihaele, Hawaii.
Kit Hobbs grew up in New York City and attended The Brearley School and Smith College. She married Whitman Hobbs, a Madison Avenue advertising executive, in 1943.
Kit loved photography and traveling. She and Whit participated in over 50 cruises, including a world trip on the Rotterdam in 1983. The travel company was so pleased with her pictures of that trip that Whit was asked to write a book about their trip, incorporating her photos. To do this, they were able to make the trip for a second time the next year. There were very few parts of the world that she and Whit had not thoroughly explored.
She and Whit spent much of their lives in Riverside and Old Greenwich, and summered at Point O' Woods on Fire Island in New York. They became active in the First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich, where they both will be buried.
After Whit's retirement they moved to Bradenton, where Kit became an active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. She sang in the choir for many years and served on numerous church committees. Kit was elected president of the local chapter of Church Women United, a national organization of which her mother, Florence Durstine Hamilton, was one of the original founders in Atlantic City in 1941.
Since childhood, Kit always had a variety of cats and dogs around the home. Her growing passion for animals led her to support innumerable animal rights organizations in her later years.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be directed to the Humane Society of Manatee County, Bradenton, Fla.
