We will be marking the day, this Sat., with a walk in the woods just north of Greenville. After the cold temps.and even some snow, the predicted 60 temp. sounds great. Somehow six yrs. have come and gone...we miss her so.

Today is January 26, 2011 and I was thinking about Katie. I can't believe Saturday will mark 6 years since she's been gone. I miss her daily.
Mrs. Spidel, I don't think I told you this, but we gave our daughter the middle name Ellen after Katie's middle name.

Greetings to all,
If you are reading this, I imagine perhaps you marked Monday, the 29th, as we did: in quiet reflection of another year gone by without Katie. Time is slowly lessening the pain of her loss; somehow we have "gone on". We are now living in Clemson country and fondly remember our visits there to see Katie in the band (was there a game going on too?). She really loved that school.
Take care everyone and all the best.

My sincere condolences to Katie's family and close friends. I met Katie when we lived on the same hall in Holmes our freshman year at Clemson. Katie and I also roomed together in Bristol, England in the summer of 2000. Such a sweet and kind girl! Always had a beautiful smile on her face! I have very fond memories of her.

I met Katie once when she delivered fruit she was selling for her high school band fund raiser. She was such a nice wonderful girl. She will be missed greatly by her family. I feel that I knew her through her step father George Spidel. My prayers are with all of you. I think all mankind has suffered by her loss. She had so much she could have contributed.

I knew Katie from Harman School and Girl Scouts through Oakwood High School. Katie was always intelligent and very on top of things. It sounds like she could have made many more contributions to the world through her work with the environment. Such a loss to us women scientists. I send my deepest condolences.

Lauren, Kathy, John, Sandi, George & Ryan,

There are so many things to be said when someone so young is lost to a disease like Leukemia and none of the words seem right. Katie was a precious gift to all of us. The saddest piece is that we do not have her to walk the rest of our journeys with us. We were given a short time in which we could walk as a part of her journey and you should all be very proud of the lovely sister, daughter and wife Katie became. She is a wonderful, beautiful combination of your love and understanding. She has touched each person she has had contact with in a warm and wonderful way. We are truly grateful to have been a part of her life. God truly needed a very special angel to have chosen Katie to join him. Please know that we are here for all of you. You are in our thoughts and prayers and God has his arms wrapping you in the love of family and friends.

Katie, until we met again, we love you.

Dear Finnesy family ,

Our deepest sympathy and prayers

during your time of such loss.

We had the pleasure of having Katie and Laureen in our life at Minot Air Force Base , North Dakota

When John's family arrived ( we were Duke Center friends)

we were able to have the girls with us often as they moved into their new home and when we could babysit other times. My family will

have fond memories of the two girls and our Katie playing endlessly. We feel so blest to have had, even if for just 1 1/2 years, to have been a part your lives. God Bless

Katie was an inspiration to me not only in highschool, but during her battle with cancer. I once wrote her while I was visiting family in Houston, offering her any help I could give, and she said she really didn't need anything, she had it all. She told me she had it all under control and she knew her family was strong and that she had such a great support system. She wasn't worried about herself, she told me, only about her husband and family. Katie was a wonderful person and will always live in our hearts. My thoughts and prayers are with all of her family.

There are no words to express the sadness and grief we feel for Ryan and his family, her mother Kathy, stepfather George, sister Lauren, father John and all the family members and friends who loved her. Katie touched many lives in a myriad of ways and she will never be forgotten. Much love and prayers for healing from her Uncle Craig, Aunt Arline, Cousins Leah, Lynn, and Courtney.

Katie was an inspiration to me in high school. She spent countless hours tutoring me in algebra during 9th and 10th grade. She's the only person I know who could teach equtions and still make me laugh. My sympothy goes out to her loved ones and friends.

I went to school with Katie in Oakwood OH. We played Field Hockey together and shared some of the same friends. I remember Katie as being very mature and very compassionate, which are qualities not often found in teenagers. She was very sweet and caring. Although I haven't spoken with her in years, I have thought of her often and hoped that she was happy, successful and in love. Her family and spouse will be in my prayers.

February 10, 2005

Ryan, Lauren, John, Kathy and Families,

Our precious Katie is now at peace wrapped in the loving arms of God and her Grandpa and Grandma. For her there will be no more pain, no more heartache. She has brought so much love and joy into so many lives. She has touched so many people in so very many ways. Her smile will always be remembered as it radiated warmth, caring and a love of life. Until we are once again together, Katie, we love you!

We were blessed to have been a part of her 24 years of living...And living is exactly what she did. She was a remarkably talented young lady with so many accomplishments. Accomplishments most could only dream of, yet, Katie would strive until she attained her goals and there was no goal that was out of her reach.

Time cannot heal your pain. Time can merely help you deal with your pain. Your hearts will ache and your eyes will tear, but with time a smile will come on your face when you think of her love that she shared with you and how truly you were blessed to have Katie as your wife, sister, daughter, relative and most of all friend.

May you find comfort in knowing that she is with each of you always in all that you do, walking beside you with a hand to hold or a shoulder to lean on. And may you always have quiet, gentle, tender places in your hearts that belong to only her.

May God comfort you and cradle you in the palm of his hands.

Love and Prayers today and always,

Even though we only met Katie once,

Jon and I could plainly see what a special young lady she was. It was so obvious how much she was loved by Ryan and the rest of the Proud Family. She was a very brave person to fight so hard for her life meeting challengs head on. How fortunate she was to have the love and support of Ryan, The Prouds, and her family throughout her tremendous ordeal. I know she will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this very difficult time. Unfortunately, we are out of town until March 1st, so we will not be able to attend her services.

I have followed Katie & Ryan's love story over the last year through her aunt and my friend, Arline. I've been moved to tears many times over the strength and courage of these young people as they fought so hard, first to make Katie well, and then to keep her alive. It is a tragedy that they did not succeed, but a triumph in the way they lived their life together. My deepest condolences to those in Katie's family who have lost so much.

I knew Katie only through her Aunt Arline on the Betsy-Tacy list-serv, but I mourn her loss as a loss to mankind as well as to her family. May you all find the peace that Katie has now.
