Grandpa will be sorely missed, but with the suffering he has been going through over the past several years, I am glad that he is in heaven with Grandma. I never thought, until after his passing, about how much love Grandma and Grandpa had for each other. They were truly in love and will now be able to spend eternal life together.

Grandpa,

I'm sorry that I did not have enough time with you as an adult. I love you and will miss your smile and all the fun we had together as a child! You are always in my thoughts.

Love,

Leah

My first year in the Windsor Little League Baseball Association was not very enjoyable. I was not very good and sat the bench most of the time. As a result, I did not play my second year of PeeWee Baseball. However, as a nine year old, I tried again, and was very fortunate to be selected by your father, who at that time, was coaching the Orioles. It was a great year, and at the end of the season, your father singled me out, with one of the team individual awards. I held on to the "Most Improved Player" trophy for many years, it was my first individual award, and bigger, in my eyes, than any old 1st place trophy, that some of the other kids were receiving. Your father always had time to talk baseball with me, no matter when I stopped by. The confidence he gave me, and skills he taught me, stayed with me for years. I have often told friends, and my children, that your father was the reason I was so succesful in baseball, even past High School.

Years ago, I attended one of the parties for your father's birthday, and as I talked with him about Pearl Harbor. I asked which boat he was on? As he crossed his arms, and looked at me, he said "We were not on a boat, we were on a ship." I asked him what the difference was? He just smiled, and said, "You can put a boat on a SHIP, but you can't put a SHIP on a boat." I wish I could have talked more to him about Pearl Harbor that day, but as always, our conversation turned to baseball. I will always remember your father, and the gift of baseball that he gave to me, and also the gift of "Freedom" that he kept safe for all of us. It was a joy and an honor to know your Father.

Someday, God will grant us the wisdom to understand, for now, remember your father, and how he lived.

My Daddy, What can I say. He was the greatest man I knew. I was the lucky one to be the baby. Daddy retired when I was very young and Momma went back to work. I got to travel all over with my parents. Daddy gave me my love of history and respect for our wonderful veterans. My favorite memories include the reunions for the USS Laws. Daddy will be greatly missed by all.

I am so sorry for your loss. I thought the world of Don and all the kids. Marvin and Richard were coached by Don and they loved him very much. He was the best and most caring coach there. Marvin told me that no one ever coached him that even compared with Don. He indeed was a hero from Pearl Harbor and as a baseball coach. He will be sorely missed. He and Richard can get together now and talk baseball in heaven. God bless your family and our prayers are with you and we ask that you continue to pray for us. Love Wallace and Trudy Dunkin

My father, I could talk all day about my father, he is the greatest man I have ever known, My favorite memories of my dad is when he was coaching little league for so many years, he loved it so much, and he loved teaching the boys baseball, he was such a good coach, that was his life helping out all the boys, and the boys on his team that did not have fathers he was like a father to them, he was always there and spent extra time with them and helped them in any way he could....And then I think of him of being such a giving person, him and my mom would go and buy toys for a family and they would get the enjoyment on christmas day of going over there and sit outside and watch them ride there bikes and have a good time they did that while my mom was still living.....

He was just so great he did not ask for much at all he did not have much at all, I loved going over there on weekend taking him food, you would of thought he was in heaven eating it so very happy.....

I will always miss him....

Daddy will be greatly missed, he was loved by all that knew him. He always helped everyone he could, if anyone ever needed anything, he would give his last dime to help them! God took him peacefully in his sleep and he's now in a better place and is watching over us with mother and his father at his side! He was a World War II vet and was at Pearl Harbor, he was known as a hero to his family and friends that knew him! He loved GOD, his country and his family. He will be greatly missed.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the Stroud family for we have lost a great man. Mr Stroud was my baseball coach when I was 10 years old. For all he taught me, on and off the field, I am forever greatful. He will be remembered as a great coach, great family man, a war heroe and a friend.

Thanks for the memories.

God saw he was getting tired

And a cure was not to be.

So he put his arms around him

And whispered, “Come home with Me”.

With tearful eyes we watched him

Suffer and saw him fade away.

Although we loved him dearly,

We could not make him stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,

Hard working hands were laid to rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us. He Only Takes The Best.

We will miss you so very much.

We will never forget the precious moments we shared with you.

You have always been there for everyone and we have learned from your generosity. This will be instilled in our memory forever.

Love Always,
