John Arnold Obituary

JOHN EDGAR (ED) ARNOLD Passed away on August 20th, at the age of 97. He was born in San Francisco, July 7, 1910. His family moved to Burlingame in 1915. He graduated from Howard Avenue School, and Burlingame High School and attended classes at the College of San Mateo. He worked for Standard Oil Company of California, then started up his own ED ARNOLD PHOTOGRAPHY in Burlingame and finished up his working years at United Airline's Maintenance Base. He retired in 1975. He belonged to the San Mateo Knights of Columbus, United Airlines Retirees, the Burlingame Historical Society, the Burlingame High School Alumni, the Society for American Baseball Research, San Mateo Branch #1, SIRS and the Palo Alto Lawn Bowling Club. He was active playing semi-pro baseball in the 1930s, tried out for the San Francisco Missions in the Pacific Coast League (1932), was president of the Peninsula Parochial School League (1950-1957), was a member of the Burlingame Park & Recreation Commission (1960-1969), was inducted into the Burlingame High School Athletic Hall of Fame (1997) and was an avid lawn bowler from 1980 until 2000. In another area, he was an inveterate writer of "Letters-to-the-Editor, " directed to local papers for over 30 years. He had three children: John Arnold, Jeanne Carlson (deceased) and Suzanne Holmes. He had two sisters Edna Arnold (deceased) and Virginia Arnold; and two brothers Francis Arnold and Ray Arnold (deceased); 12 grandchildren - Patrick Arnold, Rosemary Tureau, David Arnold, Heather Holmes, Richard Arnold, David Carlson, Jennifer Thomas, Paul Arnold, Suzanne Huesby, Paul Carlson, Danny Arnold and Michelle Beard; 21 great-grandchildren: Michael Arnold, Christopher Arnold, Jonathan Tureau, Bret Thomas, Kristin Tureau, Justus George, Karina Arnold, Scout Carlson, Jack Thomas, Anthony Arnold, Ryan Huesby, Ryan Arnold, Kelly Huesby, Cyrus Beard, Finn Carlson, Tell Carlson, Emily Arnold, Sidney Arnold, Maggie Huesby, Braden Carlson and Baby Boy Beard. Family and friends may visit at 5:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a Rosary on Thursday, August 23rd at 7 :00pm at Sneider & Sullivan & O'Connell's Funeral Home, 977 S. El Camino Real, San Mateo and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 24th at 1:30 p.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1310 Bayswater, Burlilngame, CA. Interment to follow at Skylawn Memorial Park, San Mateo, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hanna Boys Center, Sonoma, CA 95476.
