Gilmore Wiley "Gil" Reid Sr.

Reid, Gilmore Wiley Sr. "Gil" Passed away at the Woodland Health Care Center in Brookfield, Wisconsin Tuesday, January 2, 2007. Gil was born in St. Louis, MO January 15, 1918. On July 16, 1994 he married his wife Lorrayne Woodford-Reid (nee Sellman). Gil was a renowned railroad artist who was especially known for his watercolors of trains and train stations which were always as technically perfect as they were picturesque. He attended the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and the Miami (Ohio) University- Fine Arts. Gil was especially fond of and often painted Pennsylvania Railroad K4 steam locomotives which he loved dearly. He also produced the art work for Amtrak calenders for 19 years. Gil served with the 10th Engineering Battalion in the European Theater during WWII and received a Purple Heart after being wounded in Italy. He was discharged in 1945 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. In addition to his painting, Gil worked for Kalmbach Publishing in the art department for many years. He was a member of Millersville (Indiana) Lodge No. 126 F. & A. M. for fifty years. Gil was preceded in death by his son, Gilmore Jr., his first wife Ann, and step-daughter Linda Woodford. He is survived by his wife Lorrayne, daughter Sara Kaploe of Olatha, KS, and grandsons Aaron and Kevin Kaploe also of Olatha. He is further survived by his extended step-family Susan and David King, Michael and Jill Woodford, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held for Gil at the Brookfield Presbyterian Church, 1485 N. Brookfield Rd., Brookfield, WI Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 1:00 PM Pastor Bill Petterson officiating. Visitation with the family will take place from 12 NOON until time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to the Brookfield Presbyterian Church be made in Gil's honor. The family wishes to give special thanks to the staffs of Waukesha Memorial Hospital, Woodland Health Care Center, and VITAS Hospice for their loving care during the last few months of Gil's life.
