Carol Lowe Obituary

Carol June Martin Lowe was born December 13, 1923, in Sumner, Washington, to Alida Maude Benton Martin and Paul West Martin. She lived a long and full life until she passed away on January 13, 2011, at the great age of 87. Her final days were passed peacefully at home in the company of family and friends.

Carol grew up in Sumner where she joined her family every summer, picking raspberries on her grandmother's farm which was located on the Puyallup River on the road to Orting. She graduated from Sumner High School in 1942, attended Pacific Lutheran University and married Frank R. Lowe of Tacoma, in 1945.

Together with their daughter Sandy, they enjoyed camping, rock and arrowhead hunting along the Columbia River and trips to their cabin at Silver Springs. For many years they owned a ranch in Enumclaw where they raised horses and cattle. They also enjoyed family trips to the family homestead in Montana.

Carol loved cooking, both professionally and for friends and family, her specialty was Italian food and many will attest to its gourmet flavors.

Carol and Frank lived in Mattawa for a number of years, where she was Head Cook for the Mattawa School District. Over her lifetime, Carol also worked as a Veterinarian Assistant in Enumclaw and as Office Manager in a doctor's office in Tacoma.

After her husband died in 1996, Carol moved from Mattawa to Ellensburg where she created a wonderful circle of friends. They enjoyed trips to the opera, theatre, trying out new restaurants and helping each other in their endeavors. She was always an avid supporter of environmental causes and animal and human rights.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Norgaard of Encinitas, California; a sister, Pauline Martin Lee of Petersburg, Alaska; grandchildren, Karen Martin Norgaard of Carlsbad, California and Erik Lowe Norgaard and Christopher Hasle Norgaard, of Encinitas, California. She will also be remembered with love by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

At Carol's request, a family memorial service will be held on the homestead in Montana. Steward & Williams Tribute Center is in care of arrangements.
