Beulah Plouse Obituary

Beulah Pauline (Pless) Plouse passed away at her Easton home on March 5, 2011 with family members in attendance.   Born October 4, 1911 in Mountain City, Tennessee, she was the eldest child of Martha (Day) and D.W. Pless.  Her parents were early residents of Easton, where she grew up and spent the majority of her life.  After graduating from Easton School, Beulah obtained teaching credentials from Ellensburg Normal School (which became Central Washington University) and the University of Washington.  Later, she earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from CWU.  As a young woman, Beulah taught grades 1-8 in Hyak, Cabin Creek and Easton and 1st grade in Hoquiam.  In 1938, Beulah married Gwilym "Laddie" Plouse and for a short time they made their home in San Francisco where their son  Gwilym "Smoky", was born.  The couple returned to Easton and a second son Daryl "Danny" joined the family.
Beulah taught elementary school in Easton for 27 years before retiring in 1978.  Students and colleagues respected her passionate commitment to teaching and she influenced the lives of many children, some of whom remained in contact long after they became adults.
After they retired, Beulah and Laddie traveled to Quartzsite, Arizona each winter where they enjoyed spending time with longtime friends.   Laddie was very involved with the Quartzsite Improvement Association, serving as its President, and Beulah helped organize potlucks and dances.  Summers were spent at their Lake Kachess cabin where they frequently entertained family and friends.
Beulah was preceded in death by her husband Laddie who passed in 2002, her brothers Wilbur and Gene Pless, two infant children, and her parents.   She is survived by sons Smoky(Kathy) Plouse and Danny Plouse;  three grandsons:  Lawrence (Peg) Price, Kevin (Traci Jones) Plouse,  and Jonah Hudgins;  two granddaughters:  Tracy (Sherman Tate) Plouse and Leslie (Shawn Lewis) Plouse-Nixon;  four great-grandsons; and  numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and –nephews and great-great-nieces and –nephews.
A private service was held in Ellensburg.  Remembrances may be made to Kittitas County Home Health and Hospice or Friends of Hospice, 401 East Mountain View Ave. Suite 3, Ellensburg, WA 98926.  Your contributions will help continue the supportive care provided by this exceptional service

I still remember the BIG chalk circle on the floor and learning to tell time as we sat around the circle while "Mrs Plouse" made big and little hands on the clock. During my elementary years, Mrs. Plouse was the kindest and most encouraging teacher I had.

Danny, Smokey and family, may you be blessed by the rich memories of both your mom and dad. They were special in many ways.
