Lana Thayer Obituary
Lana was very excited for her relationships and being able to spend time with her grandchildren. She liked shopping, movies and baking. For the last decade, she has taught cosmetology in the Yakima Valley. She taught both adult and YV Tech classes.
She was very proud of her family and loved her pets. She will be best remembered by her family whom she loved dearly and by all her students for her dedication and passion for cosmetology education. Lana held her Cosmetologist license as well as a Post Secondary teaching degree which allowed her to teach high school students. She was highly regarded and sought after by her students and peers in this area for being one of the best Cosmetologist instructors in the Valley. Lana was always volunteering her time to help her students succeed. She volunteered for every hair show that came to the valley and went the extra mile every time to ensure her students were getting the best education and opportunities out there. Her students adored her.
She will be especially missed by her family, friends, students and her dog "Boo."
Lana is survived by her life partner Dave Hillwick; daughter Heidi L. Yocom (Richard); son Kyle Thayer (Cara), son Todd Thayer; grandchildren Jessica, Audrey, William, Keely and Adelynn and her dog "Boo;" siblings: Harold D. VanBuskirk, Karen Lalande (Chris), Janna VanBuskirk, Julianna Lundberg (Karl), Marcus VanBuskirk, Tanya VanBuskirk (Curt); 10 nieces and nephews, and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harold Adelmar "Poppy" VanBuskirk, and Neoma D. VanBuskirk.

Thinking about you as I just learned about Lana. Praying God will give strength and hope. Lana was such a compassionate and caring woman, my favorite instructor in beauty college, someone you could trust who always wanted the best for you. God Bless you all, and the many many wonderful memories I am sure you have.

Heidi, I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. I, too, just lost my father and am really struggling. Today I have to leave my family on the east coast and travel back to Washington. I will be praying for God's grace and blessing for you and me.

Mom, it's been a week since you passed... I am missing you sooo much! I still can't believe this is happening! I keep thinking I'm gonna see you tomorrow. I wrote a long message here last week and for some reason it didn't get published. I don't even know what I said. Well, tonight has been a hard night. I am feeling so angry that you are gone. Why? God help me to accept the things I cannot change. The strength to get thru... I want to be at peace mom. I just need your hug right now! I hate it that you are not here. Your passing is so absolute... So sudden and I just don't know what to do with myself. I pray that I will have peace soon mom. I really am... but it is hard. You were such a huge part of my life... we are just terribly missing you! I love you mom, RIP

I am so saddened by Lana's passing and my thoughts and prayers are with the family.
I have many great childhood memories of growing up with Lana! Floating the ditch, going to the public pool, cooking, talking about boys,and always laughing....lots of good times. Of course Julie and Marcus were always there, too! I am blessed to have had my time with Lana, and the entire VanBuskirk family. Lana will be missed. I love you all, Crystie Johnson (Craig)
