Geraldine Wood Obituary

Geraldine (Gerry) Wood was born August 31, 1927, the oldest of seven children. She passed into her Savior's loving arms on May 19, 2011. As a young woman, she loved helping to take care of her younger siblings and working on the various farms where she and her family lived. At 18 , she enrolled at Central Washington College determined to become a nurse. She worked at several jobs: bookkeeping at the local auction yard, an insurance company and at a grocery store. She saved as much money as possible so she could attend Northwestern University where she had applied and been accepted in a nursing program. After a bout of mild polio and other circumstances that prevented her from pursuing a nursing degree, she moved with her family to Stevensville, Montana. There she met her husband Ted Wood. They eventually returned to and settled in the Kittitas Valley, where they raised two daughters and worked hard running a dairy business. Gerry's preliminary nursing skills came in handy and she was able to attend to many of the veterinarian chores required on a working dairy farm. She and Ted retired from the dairy business in 1986 and they enjoyed traveling around the Northwest visiting family and friends. Gerry enjoyed gardening and especially loved roses.

Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ted and her younger brothers: Donald E. Miller, David S. Miller and Michael D. Miller.

Survivors include: daughters, Susan Doerflinger and Cheryl Wood; son-in-law Duane Doerflinger; Granddaughter Andrea Doerflinger; sister Diane Prinzhorn; brothers Homer (Pinky) K. Miller, John (Jack) L. Miller and many cherished nieces and nephews.

A quiet viewing will be held at the Steward and Williams Tribute Center on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 2pm-4pm with funeral services held Friday, June 3, 2011 at 10:30am also at the Steward and Williams Tribute Center.

Gerry was always a pleasure to help when she came to "Woods hardware" for things and I loved seeing her.
Over the past few years I mostly saw her at the groc store and we always enjoyed our visits.
She always had a big smile and happy greeting.
I will miss her greatly and my best wishes go to the family .

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss of your Mom. It was always a treat to see her when I was younger and more foolish and would come flying by at any hour of the day or night. I'll miss her smile. Please be in touch.

Gerry was like family to me. I felt as at home with her as I did with my own mom. Wonderful, comforting and so very sweet are the memories I will always hold of her.
The angels are rejoicing to have you home, Gerry!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this sad time. We fondly remember Gerry accompanying my mother to visit us in Coos Bay, Oregon. We took many walks on the beach hunting for shells/sand dollars. Gerry was a wonderful person and we will truly miss her.
