Gregory Dantzler Obituary

Dantzler, Gregory R., M.D.
Died suddenly; Cedar Sinai Medical Center Chief of Obstetrics Dr. Gregory R. Dantzler, a long time obstetrician/gynecologist at the Cedar Sinai Medical Center died unexpectedly on Wednesday. He was 48. Dantzler died of a massive heart attack at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital in Inglewood, CA where he was also on staff. In private practice since 1986, Dantzler also co-founded California Obstetric and Gynecological Services (C.O.G.S.), providing gynecological care to many women in underserved communities. He also served as the Medical Director of the Women's Clinic & Family Counseling Center in west Los Angeles, one of the city's oldest non-profit community health care clinics, and as an adjunct professor at the UCLA School of Medicine, Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and St. John's Health Center. Prior to building his Beverly Hills medical practice in 1990, Dantzler's fervor for providing healthcare to disadvantaged women took him to Mobile, Alabama where his work led to significant decreases in the city's once atrocious infant mortality rates. A graduate of the USC School of Medicine in 1980, Dantzler had practiced medicine in Los Angeles since completing his residency at the USC Medical Center. He had been on staff at Cedar Sinai Medical Center since 1990. Dr. Dantzler also worked with his wife, Pastor Vanessa W. Dantzler, served on the Executive Board, was the Financial Director, and worked with the Men's Ministry, at the Apostolic Faith Home Assembly in the Historic West Adams District of Los Angeles. Gregory Dantzler is survived by his wife of 28 years, Vanessa and his son, Gregory R. Dantzler II. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, at the Angelus Funeral Home at 3875 S. Cernshaw Blvd. The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11, at the Apostolic Faith Home Assembly at 3200 W. Adams Blvd. All donations in Dr. Dantzler's memory may be made to the Apostolic Faith Home Assembly.

He was such a kind and gentle man who attended me through a difficult birthing process. He was also a fine and skillful surgeon. His son should know how proud he was of him. Many times he told me of the joy and pride he took in his son. We will miss him.
