Barbarossa, Martha Ellen Ivey, age 94, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and formerly Edina, MN passed away peacefully on January 2, 2012. Survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Gordon Barbarossa; and children Bob Barbarossa (Suzanne), Carol Alber (Tim); grandchildren, Kimberli Hassel (Chris), Andre Barbarossa, Brett Alber (Lorra), Chad Alber; great-grandchildren Kati and Lexi Hassel, Ivey, Beau and Anabelle Alber; sisters Pauline DiSalvo, Rachel Mischker, and Naomi Balsamo. Martha was born and raised in Benson, NC. During WWII she met Gordon on a blind date at Ft. Brag, NC where she worked and where he was stationed in the army. They were married in 1945 and went to live in MN. Together after mortgaging Martha's 1941 Ford, they started the family business, Barbarossa & Sons, Inc that continued successfully for 62 years. Martha's greatest joy in life was her family. She loved to travel the world, garden and play golf. She was a true optimist, finding good in every situation and she and Gordy together shared a deep faith in God.
