Mr. David Fields - a native of Sunflower, AL and a resident of Mobile, AL, entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 2, 2012.
He graduated from the Fields School and McIntosh Union High School prior to receiving his Bachelors of Science and Masters of Education Degrees in the field of Mathematics from Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL.
David served in the United States military for three years during the Korean War. He later entered the field of Education and taught high school in Lee County, AL, Chicago, IL, and Los Angeles, CA and eventually returned to Chicago where he served as an assistant high school principal and, later, head principal. At the age of 65, after achieving much success at Xerox, David retired and began a new career as an independent stockbroker, establishing his own company and achieving great wealth for many clients in the New England area. In 2004, he retired and relocated to Mobile, Alabama to be closer to his family. He was loved and cherished by everyone who crossed his path.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Henry H. Fields, Sr. and Amanda Fields; four sisters, Janie Foreman, Ola M. Knowles, Ella F. Wiley and Willie Lee Sanders; and three brothers, Robert Fields, Loyal Foster, and Rev. Henry H. Fields, Jr.
Survivors include his very loving and faithful wife of 38 years, Maejim Fields; a devoted daughter and son-in-law, Daya Fields and Gowshihan Sriharan and an expected grandchild in August; six devoted sisters, Ruth B. Dear Dad - I miss you terribly. I light a candle by your picture everytime it gets to be too much and for some reason it helps. At times I feel you watching over me and I'm thankful I still feel your presence and now have a keepsake urn - I feel I have piece of you with me and Gowshihan continues to wear your ties....
With love,
Daya

Dear Dad,
I miss you so much....some days are okay since I went back to work so quickly but some days afer work when I'm alone at home I feel so sad I can't pick up the phone and call you. I still reach for the phone when there is something funny I know you'll laugh at, when something coincidental happens or just when I'm feeling alone. You were the closest person to me in this world and I miss you hourly...
Love,
Your daughter Daya

Words seem futile, but they are the only means of trying to communicate my feelings for someone who impacted my life so deeply. Uncle David was a friend. He could make anyone feel at ease and so importantant, even in a crowded room. He was the host with the most. I will treasure the peals of laughter and the infectious smiles.
I thank God for his kindness to me. I am confident that he rests in the loving hands of God.

"In Celebration, Honor and Thankfulness to an Uncle Who Was More than Just a Relative"
To us our Uncle David Fields was more than an Uncle. He was truly a great friend. He was someone we could truly pour our thoughts out to and know that he would be truthful, kind, loving, and generous with his words. He was not one to sugar coat any situation. He would always tell you the truth, whether it hurt or not, because he strongly believed that you could benefit from his wisdom, knowledge and experiences.
Uncle David made us laugh, even when we wanted to cry, and he made us stronger, when we felt that we couldn't do something any longer. He was always there to give you encouragement and support.
Uncle David truly valued education. He was so proud of his family and always encouraged us to achieve the highest educational standards. He leaves a legacy of education to his family, especially our young family members. I challenge all young people to continue his legacy and love for education by setting high educational goals.
Uncle David, we will truly miss your kind, loving, generous, playful, and witty spirit. You were full of laughter, full of fun, and could get a smile from anyone. "When God gave us gifts, he tried to be fair, but when we got you, we got more than our share." Whenever you were around, you always made us smile, I hope you can truly see, you were more to us than what you were meant to be. Uncle David, we will always love you. Your neice, Dr. Betty M. Leslie, Mobile, AL.

David and I were close friends for over 35 years. He was someone I could always count on for sound advice, support or a great laugh. He was the best man at our wedding. Henry shared my love and admiration for Davis as well. I will really miss him. We send our deepest sympathy to Maejim, Daya, and the entire family.
Love, Claudette and Henry Crouse

Dear Dad,
Words can't express how much you mean to me and how much you'll be missed, cherished and remembered. You were the best Father a daughter could have - there was no better. I will teach my children about your life and lessons. Thank you for being a beacon to model, not just for me, but for many who crossed your path.
I will always love you, talk to you everyday, and look for the ways you will continue to speak to me...
Love always,
Daya
