Dr. Powers was a great Dr. I was going thru a really ruff pregnancy and my child was not going to make it when she was born and I remember him telling me Sandra the first thing I´m gonna ask god when I´m heaven is why does he make women suffer so much! He was always very nice and sweet.

Dr. Powers will forever be in my family's heart. He delivered my first two grandchildren. I am a nurse at UMC, and had the privilege of praying with several of his patients. As was his, my hope is in Jesus. I cannot wait to see him in Heaven, and want his family to know I pray for you each time I think of Dr. Powers. May the Holy Spirit continue to comfort and heal your hearts.

Chris was the first person I met at Harvard after my roommates. We were standing on a sunny September day in a line in front of Memorial Hall. He was extremely nice. We never got to know each other well but I think it is striking that I have a sharp, bright, clear memory of him after a brief encounter nearly 40 years ago. Please accept my most sincere sympathy at this tragic loss. Sincerely, Dan Poneman

My wife Sondra and I wish to extend to the family of Dr. Powers our heartfelt condolences. We have been terribly saddened by his passing. He was our doctor, and an extremely kind, generous and righteous man. We will miss him very much, and we will keep him in our prayers. We know that he was not only among the very best and most committed physicians in Texas, but he was also a man of deep faith. In his honor we are planting a grove trees in Jerusalem. If there is anything at all that we can do for his family during this difficult time, I hope that they will not hesitate to call upon us.

I only got the chance to spend a handful of weeks with Chris when he was still an attorney with Kemp Smith and I was clerking for Kemp Smith as a law student from UVA in 1986. But, it didn't take me long to figure out what a great person he was. He and his wife, Peggy, were so kind to me. I'm happy for the short time I was able to share with him.

I am a Registered Nurse and was so happy to have finally found a doctor that really took time to listen. Dr. Powers did not just give answers and walk away- he educated and explained his answers. He took time to get to know his patients and their families as well. My sincere condolences to Peggy and family for your loss. I will forever be grateful to have known your husband (and father) and think of him every time I look at my precious blessing.

Sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Powers family for your profound loss. Like many, I had the good fortune of knowing Dr. Powers during his treatment of my wife during our second pregnancy. In addition to being a skilled and talented physician, I also found Chris to be insightful, quick-witted, compassionate, patient, and immensely kind. In short, a good and decent man who will, rightfully, be missed by all who were fortunate enough to share his company and with whom it was my great privilege to know, if even for a short time.

Dr. Powers, Sweetest man I've ever known,
Thank you for raising a Godly, passionate, bold, strong, loving, and beautiful daughter whom will forever be my best friend. I firmly believe your spirit lives in her. How I long to emulate her, you, your son and your beautiful wife. I know your legacy will live on forever on this earth and I cannot wait till the day I can share it with my kids. I pray that my husband will love my baby girl and boy the way you love Sarah and Christopher. I pray that my husband will cherish and light up the way you do with Peggy. I pray that I can have a servants heart like yours.

What a joyful, joyful day it will be when we reunite in heaven; but until then, I will miss you (and your sarcasm) forever.

I am so saddened at the lost of a great man! The opportunities I had to sit in his office and exam rooms I will forever hold dear. He talked with me about real problems, and he was very much a grounded man. I could discuss anything and he never sat in judgement or above me. We had such great discussions and not just about me but about real life. He made me feel welcomed, comfortable, and cared for. This man was taken way before his time, but because of his faith I know God has him in better hands. I loved his sense of humor and his ability to find a light in the dark places. I thank God for him, and my prayers and condolences go out to his family at this difficult time. You are truly going to be missed!

I was so sadden to hear that Dr. Powers had passed away. I had finally found a doctor that I was comfortable with and had a very caring attitude with his patients. He would care enough to ask how you were doing when you had an office visit, he also had a sense of humor. God bless his family and may they find comfort in the days ahead with all the good memories he left.

I offer my prayers and condolences to Dr. Powers family. He had delivered my baby in February 23 of this year and I had seen him last in May. He was a wonderful doctor and most of all seemed like just a happy person. He made me comfortable and easy for me to talk to him, which many people know talking to doctors is far from comfortable. I still can't believe that this happened to such a man who radiated goodness and a simple joy to life. My heart goes out to his family.

I am still in utter shock hearing about Dr Powers. My heart and prayers go out to his wonderful family during this difficult time. I had the honor of being his patient for my fourth pregnancy, and I am calling it a honor, because of the wonderful service I received from him. He was a wonderful doctor, and his knowledge was never ending. He made my time their at his office a great experience, and he made me feel at ease during every visit. I remember when it got close to my due date, he told me... I am going out of town, so keep that boy in there, because I want to be there when you deliver, I am very curious to see what this little one looks like. Sure enough I went into labor when he was on vacation, however to my surprise there he was scrubbing up to deliver my son. Best experience ever. Today El Paso lost a great doctor, but more importantly his family lost a wonderful father, and husband. Once again my condolences to the Powers family, may your family turn to God during this difficult time, and let him bless and give you strength at this time. Dr. Powers I wish I could have thanked you more for your hard work, dedication, and for taking care of me during my pregnancy. Thank you! May you rest in peace, may your memories remain, and may your family find peace in their hearts soon!

Dr. Powers, I still get embarrassed and laugh when I think about the day I barged into your office crying because I found out I was pregnant at 43 years old. You smiled and said as you hugged me, "Calm down, relax. That's why God gives you nine months to get used to the idea! Everything is going to be just fine." You were right...and nine months later you delivered the most amazing and beautiful blessing... Thank you for your wisdom, kindness, and love for my Jesse Lynne. Dear Peggy, Christopher, Sara Beth, and Mrs. Powers, I send my deepest condolences and prayers that you can find peace and understanding in the face of the tragic loss of Chris. The entries here are a testament to the great life Chris led. I am most familiar with a different part of CJP's life--his law school life and adventure travels before Peggy met Chris. My first travel with Chris was in 1982 rafting the remote Tatshenshini River in Alaska, which was followed by an even more adventurous 4-month around-the-world trip with Chris, Jim Bassett, and Bill Redd, all of us grads of UVa Law School. Whether climbing Mt. Kenya and Mt. Kilimanjaro, camping in the wilds of the Serengeti, jogging the streets of Nairobi, hiking the trails of Nepal, observing Hindu custom on the banks of the Varanasi River in India, or plying the streets of Bangkok, Chris was an exceptional travel companion. (He also turned the head of every woman, which was a blessing to the rest of us not having his good looks and charm.) His persistence (he seemed to enjoy doing a 100 sit-ups and push ups before embarking on a run), his jocular humor, his consistent kindness and caring, and his intellectual depth was ever present. That he has been taken so soon causes a rain of tears. It was an honor to know Chris. He told me in Africa he wanted to leave earth a better place, and he has done that in his acts, family, and friends. What one has loved will never be lost because it becomes part of us. Chris will live in the lives of those he met. Thank you Chris for entering my life. You were a great friend I will NEVER forget. Erik Rasmussen, UVa Law '81,

He was one of the most considerate and caring people I have ever known. The world is a sadder place without him in it.His bright smile, words of wisdom and compassion for others will be remembered by all whose lives he touched. When I look up in the night sky and see the brightest star, I will know it is Chris smiling down on us all. To Peggy, Chris and Sarah, our deepest sympathy, may your love and strong faith help you in this time of great loss. Jean, Robert and Roy Holdeman

Although I have never met Dr Powers' family, I have had the privilege to work with him personally on several occasions. I cannot express enough how his loss saddens me. He was truly a gifted and compassionate physician, in every sense a consummate caregiver. His life will always be an inspiration for countless others. Indeed, I feel honored to have known and worked with him. My prayers and sympathies go out to his family.

Dr. Powers was a breath of fresh air when I worked with him on Medical Staff Committees at what was then R.E. Thomason Hospital. He was articulate, funny and always open to new ideas and spirited discussion. Please accept my sincere sympathy at your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you. When I read Chris's obituary today, I marveled at how perfectly it described him...even as I knew him when we were at Lincoln and Moses Brown together. All of us from those days are devastated to hear this news. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with the entire Powers family.

Our deepest condolences to the Powers family. I was very sad to hear the news that Dr. Powers was in a serious accident, but when I heard of his death no words could describe how I felt. Dr. Powers was my doctor for the past 8 months and was going to deliver my baby in July. I can't put into words what a beautiful man he was. This will be our first child and Dr. Powers would always put my husband and I at ease. He was extremely gracious, intellegent, professional, kind and absolutely the best doctor I have ever had. As soon as he would enter the room his light would shine with his beaming eyes and smile. There was a radiance about him... He will be greatly missed. We are extremely grateful for the care he gave us. May God give Mrs. Powers and her family strength during this very difficult time. There is now a beautiful angel in the heavens.
