Albert Baines Obituary

Albert Baines Jr.

Albert Richard Baines Jr., 92, of Arnold, died of natural causes on June 26 at his home surrounded by his family.
Richard was born on September 25, 1919 in Baltimore, and raised in Sparrows Point, where he graduated from Sparrows Point High School. He served in the U.S. Army as a para-trooper in the Pacific Theater during World War II, 462nd Parachute Field Artillery, 503rd Regimental Combat Team. Mr. Baines studied at McCoy College (Johns Hopkins University) and was employed at the Sparrows Point Steel Mill and Black and Decker Power Tools. He retired as a tool designer at Westinghouse in Linthicum, after more than 30 years where "Al" was a contributor on projects for NASA that went to the moon, among other projects.
Mr. Baines was an active square dancer and was active in Boy Scouts with both his sons. In addition, he was an artist in oils, acrylics, charcoal and colored pencil.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Myrna R. (Hewett) and Albert Richard Baines Sr.; his wife, Ruby Frances (Brown); his brother, Robert; and his sister, Dorothy.
He is survived by two sons, Richard III of Stevensville and Blake Baines of Arnold; two grandchildren, Rick and Elizabeth Wootten; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Parker Wootten, all of Los Gatos, CA.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, June 30 at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 2 at the funeral home with the interment to follow at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie.
