Sammi Kane Kraft

Obituary

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Sammi Kane Kraft, whose baseball skills earned her the role of a Little League pitcher in the 2005 remake of "The Bad News Bears," has died in a Los Angeles car crash. She was 20.

The Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/RgLEIq) says Kraft was a passenger in an Audi that rear-ended a big rig and was struck by another car at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 10.

Her brother, Frankie Kane, tells the Times that Kane was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The California Highway Patrol says the Audi's driver was treated for moderate injuries and arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

Kraft was 13 when she was discovered on an LA baseball diamond and cast in her only film. She played the role originated by Tatum O'Neal in 1976.

I just now read this as I'm watching the 2005 film. I'm an original fan of the 1976 movie. I've watched both films many times and was impressed of her skills as a player. As a former college player, and a Fan of the Little League World Series, it is so sad to hear of someone that young losing their life. My sympathies to her brothers and parents.

Loved you in Bad News Bears..R.I.P.

My condolences to her family. I just recently heard of her passing. Every time I watch Bad News Bears now it's always a little sad. She did such an amazing job in this movie. My family loved this movie when it first came out as we are a baseball family. I coached my son when he was young and this movie was one of my favorites. My son plays in college today and my younger daughter plays softball and anytime this movie is on we always watch it. Sammi stole the show and what is even better I...
