Hillary Madison Hughes, 81, of Radford, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012. He was retired maintenance supervisor with Carroll County Schools and a member of The Presbyterian Church of Radford. He was a United States Navy veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict and a lifetime member of the VFW Post in Hillsville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Lee Kemp Hughes.
Survivors include his children, Richard Lee Hughes, of Galax; and his daughter, Deborah Hughes-Bullock, of New Bern, N.C.; half sisters, Mary Hilda Martin and Linda Hilton; grandchildren, Shannon Dalton and husband, Bradley, of Galax, and Richard Conley Hughes and wife, Julie, of Hardy; great-grandchildren, Bradley Dalton Jr., William Lee Dalton and Elizabeth Hughes; first cousin, Judith Doyle, of Lakeland, Fla., and her son, and Brian and Susan and Masie Doyle; and sister-in- law, Doris Goad and husband, Paul, of Hillsville.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 15, 2012, at the Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin, where members of VFW Post #776 will conduct Military Graveside Rites. Funeral Services will follow at 3 p.m. at The Presbyterian Church of Radford, with the Rev. David Dickerson officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2012, at Mullins Funeral Home. I will miss Madsion a great deal, we shared so many long conversations about his travels and life. He was very good to me and Im proud to have called him a friend. My prayers are with all of his family.

We will miss Madison and his enthusiasm for sharing the family stories and his great joy in learning what Brian and now Maysie are up to. We loved spending time last summer and having that wonderful party to celebrate his life and his many accomplishments. We are thinking of you Debbie and sending our love.

I was a cafeteria worker in Carroll county.I always had the highest respect for Madison.He was a Godly man at all times.In recent years I saw him at Radford Hospital where we were both seeing Doctors.In talking with him I saw that he was still the great person he had always been.He now has his reward.May God bless you all in this great loss.
